The Silent One's Photo Gallery

Nabil Shaban as "The Silent One" in "Born of Fire".

Photos by Nabil Shaban, whilest on location in Turkey, filming for "Born of Fire" (1986), directed by Jamil Dehlavi.

The Director, Jamil Dehlavi, behind the camera.

Jamil wondering how much he will get for his coat as the film has now gone over budget!!!
Hey Jamil, I'm only joking!!! I still wannabe in your next movie.

Actor, Oh-Tee who plays "Iblis", the demonic Master Musician, recovering from having been set on fire.

Oh-Tee "We can make such music together that it will set the world ablaze"

Oh-Tee "Fire! I am the God of Hell-Fire."

Peter Firth, who plays the English flute player,
the Master Musician needs to help him make the Devil's music,
to create the infernal vibrations that will engulf the world in flames.
And Peter seemed such a nice chap.

Peter Firth, shades of Steve McQueen?

Suzan Crowley and film crew on location in Cappadocia, Turkey

Suzan Crowley wasn't allowed to get a sun-tan
because she had to keep her face and body a deathly pallor,
since she was playing a Djinn,
one of the supernatural entities in Middle Eastern folkloric traditions.

Suzan Crowley - any relation to Aleister?

"Action!" and the Djinn disappears in a puff of smoke...or has her costume caught on fire?

Harry, my minder. Whenever I'm working in a foreign location,
particularly in difficult, inaccessible terrain,
Harry usually comes along as my personal assistant.
Looks a bit like James Can, don't ya think?

Harry having to carry me on his back, as we have to go down into a deep cave where an ancient Byzantium city was built underground.

I get chatting to this Turkish guy whilest I'm waiting to film a scene and he points to an area of waste-ground literally littered with human bones. He is holding one of the skulls we found just lying on the surface. It is possible, we were in the middle of an ancient battle field.

This rock reminds me of the head of a Trojan warrior. Which is not surprising since we are in the land of the ancient city of Troy.

The film crew shooting a scene of Dervishes in the Rock Pools of Pamukele

Again, the Rock Pools of Pamukele

Peter relaxing by the pool.

Now everyone is relaxing after a seven week shoot.
