A Family Affair

“They thought they were in Emerald City,” says John McCook of his children Jake, Becky and Molly on their first visit to Manhattan. Because Guys and Dolls was sold, out the kids’ first Broadway show was Jelly’s Last Jam. “It wasn’t entirely appropriate,” says John, “but it blew them away. We went to the World Trade Center, took a carriage ride in Central Park and spent a day with Peter Bergman (Jack, Y&R) and his wife.” The trip’s bonus was best buddy Peter’s Outstanding Actor Emmy. “I was in the wings with Katherine Kelly Lang, waiting to present the award for Outstanding Actress,” says John. “Peter had convinced himself – and us – that he didn’t have a chance of winning. So when we heard his name it was like a Hollywood buddy movie. We cross onstage in front of millions of people and gave each other a high five. That was a joy.”
