                                    Running into a Wall
                                         by: Mike Ike

So far this first real CFSL season has gone very well, the decision of the commish to take over the league and making this a players only league, along with appointing your truly as scouting director has made this a very successful season for the ASFL's minor league the CFSL.  It has been highlighted by the amazing performance of Sky Force QB Wade Williams and a great field of linebackers.  Despite all these things someone like me can always fine something wrong.  That thing has been the absolutley terrible play of just about every single running back in the CFSL.  There are many possible explanations for the appauling performance of CFSL running backs.  Maybe it's that great group of linebackers?  Or maybe no real players on the offensive line is the problem.  One thing isfor sure: these backs can't be this bad.  I asked the commish and developer of the ASFL and CFSL, Jay Soester, about this and here's what he said: "I'd say it's partially due to the offensive line and defense is much better in comparison."  When asked about the offensive line system Soester said it was computer generated.  Throughout all this horrible running display there has been a single bright spot in the CFSL's running game, the play of Wisner Tech halfback Shane Beal.  As of week eight Beal has a very impressive line: 85 car 548 yds 6.4 yds/car 7 TDs.  That's good, especially for a league with no real offensive line, a dominant defense, and the average starting halfback getting about 250 yards and about 2.5 yards a carry.  Jay has also told me he does not plan to ever include user created offensive linemen in the CFSL.  This means that we need more talented running backs or better lead blocking fullbacks.  The CFSL doesn't appear to be getting any good HBs soon, so it's probably going to be up to the TEs and FBs to pave a way for the HBs.  Will we ever have another Shane Beal in the CFSL?  Only time will tell.
