Spider-Man Web-Flyers Carnage (1998)
review by justin anderson
the desription:
the design: Though to scale with the line, the figure stands a mere 3 1/2" tall, with 9
joints. The figure is unmistakably Carnage,
but there are a few tweaks to the design. Carnage is a hunchback, and instead of
a smooth costume, the symbiote is
mainly muscle details covered in raised black patches. Bony spikes raise from
the back, and a sternum is molded into
the chest. The mouth is larger, and the eyes are rounded and symmetrical.
the articulation:
A hook on a string extends from the back, wound in by a dial which sticks out.
This works with the included web line parts (2 clamps, a length of string, and a large red and black spider). When set up
and the spider set on the zipline, hook
Carnage to the underside and close the legs. After winding the knob on the
spider, release it down the line. After
a few seconds of rolling, the legs open to drop Carnage on the hook as it
unrolls.
the review: I'm not sure exactly what look they were going for with this toy, but it's
definitely unusual. The prototype was colored
more like the official model(it may have even been cast in black plastic), so
the demonic look is definitely
an oddity. **** out of *****.
(This mold was later retooled and slightly recolored for a KB
exclusive Venom and Carnage set, without
the hook in the back.)
