DVD Easter Eggs!
(November 4th)

Hi there. While I'm hard at work doing a write-up on the fantastic Spider-Man two disk DVD (or three disk if you bought the collectors edition) here's some tips on how to find things you may have missed:

EASTER EGG #1 (Comic Book Movie Stills): On the first disc, go to 'Special Features' then 'Character Files'. There will be movie credits for Tobey, Kirsten, Willem, J.K - Jonah H, Rosemary - Aunt May, and Cliff - Uncle Ben. Click on one of the pictures to see their film credits. From there you have the option of going back to the list of those 6 actors, going forward to see more credits or back in case you missed one or something. Each actor has 2 pages with their film credits on it. Half on one page, the rest on the others. The following works for everyone except for Cliff's (Uncle Ben) film credit.
On the second page of any of the remaining 5 actors, you press up on your remote and the actor's name on top gets circled. Click on that and the info on their character comes out. From there you can see occupation, age, height, first appearance. The cool thing is that the images shown next to the info is a comic book picture of a scene from the movie. Such as one of them is M.J kissing Petter at the cemetary, or Goblin smashing into JJ office. There aren't many, and some are so close up they can be from an actual comic.

EASTER EGG #2 (CGI Bloopers & Gag Reel): If you put in the first disc, the one with the film itself (not the Extras disc), and you click on 'Commentaries' then you will see a picture of Harry Osborn (James Franco) on the left-hand side of the screen. If you click on the picture of Harry a new screen appears called something like "CGI Bloopers & Gag Reel".
Start this sucker up and you will first see the CGI clip of Peter Parker running over the rooftops as you see in the film, but this time he's chasing the pills as you would see in a Pac-Man game! Next up, you get to see a clip of Spidey climbing a wall - but this time it's only his hands climbing the wall - nothing else, no body, arms - nada! And finally there's a clip showing the CGI Spider-Man & Green Goblin doing aerobics... we repeat, aerobics! Sorry, that's too funny. The animated clip shows things like the skeleton of the Green Goblin model and more.

EASTER EGG #3 (Todd McFarlane Interview): In the second disk go to the DVD-ROM feature and press the UP arrow and a Spidey icon will appear. Click there and you've got an exclusive interview with Todd McFarlane talking about how Spidey makes his webs. Thats all from here.

EASTER EGG #4 (Rogue's Gallery Full Screen): On disc 2, go to the evolution of spider-man, then choose the rogue's gallery. Go to Electro, at the menu button (spidey logo) press down, you'll highlight a spidey sillhouette. Select it and you'll get the full screen version of the 3D Electro. It works also for Venom and Scorpion.

EASTER EGG #5 (History of the Sinister Six): Insert disc two (the special features disk), go to the comic section of the DVD, choose the "evolution of spider-man" option, then go to "rogues gallery". Once you are there, at the top you will see a picture of Spidey with his spidey sense tingling. Press up until his spidey sense highlights, push play and you will get a page on "the sinister six" with information and 3D photos.

EASTER EGG #6 (John Romita & John Romita Jr. Feature): Insert disc 2, select the "Web of Spider-Man" option, and then "The Evolution of Spider-Man". Once in this menu, select "Artists Gallery" and press the RIGHT button. The words "The Romitas" will appear at the upper right corner of the screen. Select them, and check out a nice video feature on the Romitas (John Romita Sr. and John Romita Jr.).

(July 23rd)

Sony Pictures has released info on what Spider-Fans can expect. I'm looking forward to the dot.comics, the commentary tracks, and the option to record your own, but it's all great stuff.

You've seen Spider-Man already, but Network Members are still first in line for news about the wall crawler. On Friday, November 1, Columbia TriStar Home Entertainment is releasing Spider-Man on DVD and VHS.
The super-cool two-disc Spider-Man DVD set (available in wide and full screen editions) includes never-before-revealed Spider-Man factoids, music videos, the gag reel (that's Hollywood-speak for bloopers), the HBO "Making of" and E! Entertainment specials, and a first look at comic book-to-film comparisons.
Also available November 1st will be a limited-edition Collector's Gift Set featuring the widescreen special edition Spider-Man DVD and loaded with extras including a reprint of Marvel Comics' "Amazing Fantasy" #15 (Spidey's first appearance), an exclusive collectible drawing by former Spider-Man artist John Romita, Sr. and current Spider-Man artist John Romita, Jr., a collectible numbered film cell from the movie, and more.
Time to start counting days off your calendars again.

   (May 9th)  -  Hi there. In case you haven't heard, Spider-Man has been breaking all sorts of movie money making records, leaving the much lauded Harry Potter in the dust with it's unpresidented $114 million dollar weekend gross, and it's five day total of $136 million dollars. Experts believe that Spider-Man will crack the $200 million mark in a total of ten days, breaking the previously thirteen day record held by Star Wars Episode One.
What does this all mean? That Spider-Man is kicking butt in Hollywood, which surely can't hurt the comic industry. In fact a friend told me she played "Spider-Man and Green Goblin" in the park with her nephew the other day. How about that?
Oh, and if you haven't seen the movie yet, it's pretty good. I highly recommend it, though my opinion might be a little bias.

   (April 5th)  -   Hi there. Without further adieu, here are a couple of standout screen shots from the latest Spider-Man trailer, showcasing Spidey (Tobey Maguire), the Green Goblin (Willen Dafoe) and of course, Mary Jane (Kirsten Dunst).

      
      

   (March 19th)  -  The next Spider-Man trailer to be released prior to the film's May 3rd debut (that's three weeks folks!) will be screened online at the Official Spider-Man Movie website on March 27th, and will begin airing on the silver screen on the 29th with the upcoming thriller Panic Room, starring Jodie Foster.

   (December 13th)  -  The two minute Spider-Man Movie Trailer that aired earlier this evening at 9:00pm on FOX during Temptation Island 2, is now online for viewing. Featuring extended scenes of Spider-Man, the Green Goblin and the supporting cast, the trailer has already gotten acceptence from the internet fanbase, and runs thirty seconds longer than the network broadcast version.

   (December 13th)  -  This just a reminder that tonight, the second Spider-Man trailer will be airing during FOX's Temptation Island 2, at 9:00 pm EST/PST. The trailer is going to be two minutes long and will feature a lot more action, as well as all of the main characters. This is going to be big, so check your local listings to find out where you can see the Spider-Man movie trailer's World Broadcast Premiere.
Finally, a reason to actually watch Temptation Island.

   (November 15th)  -  Sony Pictures has put a couple of amazing Spider-Man movie clips on their official Spider-Man movie website, featuring both Spider-Man and the Green Goblin in action separatly.
The first clip features Peter Parker in his Spidey togs, heading home and having to hide when Aunt May, Norman Osborn, Harry Osborn and Mary Jane come upstairs looking for him.
The second clip, which I must admit looks pretty darn cool, had Willem Dafoe in his Goblin garb and in action as the cackling Green Goblin. The final shot is right out of a Spidey comic, with the Goblin flying out of an explosion.
If you have a chance, check out these amazing clips, if you already haven't. If you have a slow modem, or connection problems, click on the Sony link at the top and sign up with the Spider-Man movie members club, for an option to see the clips in a faster, more compact size.

   (November 7th)  -  Check out today's USA Today for an exclusive sneak peek at the Green Goblin in action on his Goblin glider, with some insight into the role by Norman Osborn himself, Willem Dafoe.
Dafoe talks about how he was apprehensive at first towards taking on the dual role of Norman Osborn and the Green Goblin, but was soon persuaded by director Sam Raimi who told him it was less about action and more "about relationships, doubt, father-son connections, identity problems, adolescence and girls", Dafoe told USA Today. "I was quite taken with how he didn't surrender to titillating the audience with an action movie. He's taking it into another dimension."
Dafoe had one regret about the part however, that the trademark Osborn family haircut didn't make the final cut. "I wanted to have it so badly", said Dafoe, refering to the crimped, striped haircut sported by the male members of the Osborn clan.

   (September 22nd)  -  Aint-It-Cool-News recently scored a great picture of the Green Goblin, to be played by Willem Dafoe in the upcoming Spider-Man film. Not much to say here, but I think the costume looks great, even if the general reaction is to compare it to the shortlived 1970's Japanese Spider-Man show. I realize that I'm in the minority, but hey, it's the Green Goblin. Hard to go wrong there.

   (September 15th)  -  Due to the involvement of the World Trade Towers in the both the Spider-Man movie trailer and posters, both of the promotional tools for the upcoming Spider-Man film have been recalled for retooling. The Towers, both of which were destroyed in the wake of a massive terrorist attack figured prominently into the trailer in a scene where Spider-Man webs up a helicopter full of bank robbers between them. The Twin Towers can also be seen in the reflection of Spider-Man's eyes on the preview movie poster, already out in some theatres.

Not surprisingly some ghouls have already begun hocking their posters on ebay, though if you would like to spend your money constructively in the wake of this crisis, make a donation to the Red Cross.

   (August 2001)  -  Hey, this is just a notice to you all out there to head on over to your local mega-plex and see some great Spidey stuff out there. First the new Spider-Man posters and super-sized banners are out, featuring the image found on our title page spotlight, and the teaser trailer is being seen right now with the hit film "Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within". Featuring Spidey against airbourn bank robbers, the trailer got a B+ from Entertainment Weekly, but from all of us at the Spider's Web (which is actually just me here), it gets a A++! Hey, it's Spider-Man! Hard to go wrong there.

   (April 19th)  -  As filming on "Spider-Man: The Movie" nears the end of shooting, a picture turned up showing the young couple Peter Parker and Mary Jane Watson, as played by Tobey Maguire and Kirsten Dunst. This is amongst the first images of Dunst in her Mary Jane get-up and if it's any indication of whats to come next May 2002, we just hit the jackpot tiger!

   (April 19th)  -  In other news, shooting wrapped on the funeral scene for the departed Uncle Ben (Cliff Robertson) at a New York State based cemetary, and the teaser trailer for "Spider-Man" is expected to debut with the upcoming blockbuster-to-be "Final Fantasy".

   Directly from the Spider-Man set comes a shot of Peter Parker (Tobey Maguire, right) and Harry Osborn (James Franco, left), apparently in a Midtown High classroom. Judging from this picture, Tobey has the Peter look down pat and Franco looks like a good Harry (despite the notable absense of the trademark Osborn hairdo, which now that I think about it makes sense).

   Also on the set of the SM movie, Tobey Maguire's stunt double, Zach Hudson, suffered a broken leg during one of the stunt web-slinging shots. The shot, filmed on the Sony Lot in Culver City, California, was to have featured a stunt involving Hudson jumping through the air into a wall. A mishap occured and Hudson twisted his leg during the stunt.

   In additional news, several Spider-Man suits were taken from the set and Sony has set up a reward of $25,000 for their safe return. The suits being taken has not upset filming though.

   Spider-Man Hype recently got a hold of on set pictures of the Green Goblin costume to be used in "Spider-Man: The Movie". Click for more pictures and the full SMH article.

   It was announced last week that two central Spider-Man film roles have been filled, the last two left to be cast. Actor Bill Nunn, who has appeared in "Kiss the Girls" and "Do the Right Thing" will be playing Robbie Robertson, the Daily Bugle's kind-hearted city desk editor. This ends rumors as to whether or not Robertson would be appearing in the Spidey film at all despite earlier confirmations he would. Surprising though is the announcement that actress Elizabeth Banks ("Shaft", "Wet Hot American Summer") would be playing Jonah Jameson's young secretary Betty Brant, whom Peter Parker dated for a time in the comics. This is surprising given that up until this point there had been no mention of Betty being in the Spidey movie.

   In related casting news, Ted Raimi himself confirmed that he would not be playing Dr. Curt Connors in the first film, but would be playing the Bugle's head of advirtising 'Hoffman'. It is not yet known if the character of Connors, whose alter-ego the Lizard is rumored to be a villain in the next film, will appear in the film at all.
