| “THE FOUR SENSES 2002” Born from an idea in 1999, “The Four Senses” concerts, performed for the Deaf and Hearing Impaired by the Aotea Youth Symphony, are now into their second generation. The Aotea Youth Symphony is a dynamic and talented group of young musicians from across the Auckland area. They have performed concerts at diverse events and venues from the Auckland Domain “Symphony Under The Stars” to concerts for 100’s of school children, from the High Rises of Tokyo to the Beaches of Waiheke and from the Canadian Rockies to a NZ Main Trunk line Railway Stations. The 1999 concerts given by the Aotea Youth Symphony were an outstanding success and a frequently heard question afterwards was “When are there going to be more such events?” Well, that question is about to be answered – April 19th, 20th and 21st, 2002. And they are shaping up to be even bigger and better than 1999! The 2002 concerts will once again, with audience participation, provide multi-sensory inter-linked stimulation of sound, light, smell and touch. “The Four Senses” Special Highlights Include: Presentation of the 1999 Concerts at an International Symposium on Electronic Art in France, November 2000. and recognition that the 1999 Concerts were a world first. Artistic Design and Development - the creative touch - by Light Artist, Raewyn Turner, Lighting Director for “Split Enz”. For the 2002 Concerts, planned International Collaboration with Artist Researcher Tony Brooks from Europe Concert Concept supported and recognised by the Waitakere Regional Arts Council and Creative NZ as of National and Local Artisitic Significance. Sound. Music performed by the Aotea Youth Symphony under the Music Directorship of Paul Harrop, ONZM. Touch. Numerous Electronic Tactile devices (Aura Interactor cushions) will be installed in the auditorium specially for the Deaf audience members. Colour & Light. Dozens of Sophisticated Computer Controlled lights supplied by Kenderdine Electrical Smell. Specially blended fragrances made from natural essential oils.
