Allegation
No. 10 alleges that over a two-year period several prospective student-athletes
and their hosts were entertained by strippers at parties held at the University
Highland Apartments during official campus visits.
The
enforcement staff and the University are in agreement with the facts and the
allegations and the violations occurred.
YEAGER
states “You guys have taken a beating in the press already over this
thing. I guess the University concedes
that the expense level was what made it a violation?”
DEE
asked “Just out of curiosity, was this prior arranged that such stuff would be
part of the recruiting or was it that they were out partying on the town and
they went somewhere and they had an unusual?
JOHAN
responds that This was arranged and it became kind of an institutionalized
practice, period. Marie quickly points
out “I would just clarify that it seems the only person arranging it was
Fernando Bryant as opposed to it being an institutional practice.
YEAGER
said So it was cooked up by a couple of student-athletes, without any knowledge
of the coaches and clearly not endorsed by the University being involved in any
way. MS. ROBBINS: Correct.
Mr. DEE makes a interesting point. If we are going to talk about it, I think entertainment has to be
provided. I don't think you can just go to a house party somewhere and
something is going on that you could say “it's excessive entertainment.” If it is something regularly organized and
orchestrated that recruits go there, absolutely. I understand that. If you
happen to go somewhere and something goes on …
JOHAN says If this had come to my attention that someone went
downtown and went into a perfectly legal establishment (strip club) and took
part in this, we wouldn't be here.
This was something where Carroll told us that Fernando really
knew how to show everybody a good time and he was responsible for bringing
the women in and the liquor. This
thing just continued on through a two-year period. In fact one of the current student-athletes even said to us that
he went there when he was brought on campus for his official paid visit and
then when he hosted someone the following year, he took them to the party that
he had gone to.
YEAGER
asked “Fernando Bryant had that $ capability?”
JOHAN says Well, as we told you, Travis Carroll told us that he
always had money and he was a very good friend of Ray Keller.
I
can’t defend this one. Fernando Should Not have Done this if it did
happen. As soon as anyone found out
about it he should have been kicked off of the team. I don’t as throughout this thing don’t see proof this took place
other than Carroll’s statements.
That’s All
I got.
