THE EYE KNOWS
Grant's Eye on the World
It's another week and, YEAH, I'm right back in your face. Don't you just love it? Who you, Eye? We supposed to love you? No, I mean the liberals. These people are out to destroy everything. Watch out, you've been warned again.
Let the Games Begin
Normally in ancient Rome the call to open up the murderous games began with, "Let the games begin". What's different? Nothing really, only a couple thousand years is all.
Ailing Man Sues Fast-Food Firms;
Foxnews.com;
By Michael Y. Park; Jul 24, 2002
And to the greed of lawyers out there today, it's a game with high payoffs.
A New York City lawyer has filed suit against the
four big fast-food corporations, saying their fatty
foods are responsible for his client's obesity and
related health problems.
We have these tasteless lawyers scouring the
papers looking for a big money victim. They got
one, Big Fat.
Samuel Hirsch filed his lawsuit Wednesday at
a
New York state court in the Bronx, alleging that
McDonald's, Burger King, Wendy's and KFC
Corporation are irresponsible and deceptive in
the posting of their nutritional information, that
they need to offer healthier options on their
menus, and that they create a de facto addiction
in their consumers, particularly the poor and
children.
We can thank the idiots on the tobacco jury for this. Thing about this one is, everyone will pay for this one. The tobacco payoff is paid for by smokers who buy cigarettes at an average price of $4.50 a pack. There are more people who stop in for fast food than smokers. Looks like you all get to pay for this one.
"You don't need nicotine or an illegal drug to
create an addiction, you're creating a craving,"
Hirsch said. "I think we'll find that the fast-food
industry has not been totally up front with the
consumers."
The pattern is the same - target an industry with money, publish some report about being bad for health, demonize the corporation, and find some loser who's been apparently hurt. In this case it's some fat slob who has a weakness - food.
The lead plaintiff, 56-year-old maintenance
supervisor Caesar Barber, ate at fast-food
restaurants four or five times a week and blames
his fatty diet for his obesity, diabetes, high blood
pressure and cholesterol and the two heart
attacks he has suffered.
You know, I might agree with this pig of a man if he were blaming his stupidity on the public school system and suing them for damages. The guy is clearly a loser, but. . .
Frances Winn, a 57-year-old retired nurse, said
her habit of eating at fast-food restaurants at
least twice a week since 1975, caused her to go
from a size 6 to a size 18, and inflicted her with
hypertension, high cholesterol and a
hyperthyroid problem.
This lady has a personal problem, but. . .
Israel Bradley, 59, said his ritual of eating a
pound of french fries a week gave him high blood
pressure, diabetes, made him obese and forces
him to walk with a cane. In 1993, he passed out
and had to be rushed to the emergency room
because of the medical problems caused by his
diet.
(sigh) They put warning labels on cigarettes at least. I'm sure they'll need to 'frank' the sides of the little extra-large french fry packs with "Eating a pound of these a week will render you to walk with a cane".
The aim of the legal action is to force the
fast-food industry to "offer a larger variety to the
consumers, including non-meat vegetarian, less
grams of fat, and a reduction of size" of their
meals, along with federal legislation that would
require warning labels on fast food similar to
those on tobacco products, Hirsch said.
Do you really want the federal government to get into the food service business? I mean, ever eat any of those K-rats they serve up for the military (hurl)?
In December, then Surgeon General David
Satcher declared obesity America's soon-to-be
number one killer, and urged for there to be a
healthier range of food available to
consumers.
Who are they going to go after next? The Grim Reaper perhaps? He's the cause of all these deaths you know.
Let the Games Begin (part 2)
I've been writing these commentaries now for about 3 years. I've pointed out in no less than 100 times that to be a liberal you have to have a huge set of double standards. Here is one of the worst violators on hypocrisy around.
Daschle seeks environmental exemption; By
Audrey Hudson; THE WASHINGTON TIMES; Jul
24, 2002
This is a story of, do as I say not as I do. What else could it be?
Senate Majority Leader Tom Daschle quietly
slipped into a spending bill language exempting
his home state of South Dakota from
environmental regulations and lawsuits, in order
to allow logging in an effort to prevent forest
fires.
So do you think Little Tommy Daschole will be able to exempt the MacDonalds and Wendys in his area from Big Fat lawsuits? Guess so.
Mr. Daschle, a Democrat, said the language to
expedite logging is essential to reduce the timber
growth that can fuel wildfires. "As we have seen
in the last several weeks, the fire danger in the
Black Hills is high and we need to get crews on
the ground as soon as possible to reduce this
risk and protect property and lives," Mr. Daschle
said in a statement late Monday night after a
House-Senate conference committee agreed on
the language.
Gosh, same was true in Colorado, Arizona, Idaho, Washington . . . They got their forests thinned, by forest fires. As a matter of fact, 3 firefighters gave up their lives for a few fish because these enviro whackos never okayed the helicopter crew to fill the water bucket from the river.
Environmental groups oppose timber cutting
as a
form of fire prevention, and some groups contend
that logging activities constitute the sort of
human actions that cause forest fires.
Human actions cause forest fires. One of the fires out west was caused by a guy who needed a job. He was a firefighter and unemployed. Government employees are so resourceful.
The Legacy Work Continues
Well here we go again. Our ex-impeached president has now officially claimed his innocence.
Clinton Says Republicans Blocked His Audit
Reforms; By DAVID M. HALBFINGER; The New
York Times; Jul 24, 2002
What would you expect? The guy turned down at least 3 offers with no strings attached to receive Osama trashBin Laden. He had to spin that, so it's time to start spinning again.
Former President Bill Clinton today hailed his
own efforts to increase the oversight of corporate
governance and criticized Republicans and
Harvey L. Pitt, currently the chairman of the
Securities and Exchange Commission, saying
they had frustrated Mr. Clinton's efforts at
reform.
This man is delusional. He's poses a danger to everyone. He needs professional help.
Asked about President Bush's handling of the
economy and his attempts to rally investor
confidence, Mr. Clinton, who was touring the
construction site of his presidential library here,
avoided criticizing his successor directly.
Instead, he chided Republicans, who he said had
blocked his administration's efforts to, among
other things, bar accounting firms from working
as auditors and consultants for the same
companies.
A lie pure and simple. A democratic congressman Christopher Dodd (CT) set up this accounting fiasco. He authored the bill and championed it through congress. Billie-bob signed it. So much for his claim.
Knew this would happen
This next story is something I called years ago. It was a pretty easy call really.
Clintons Ask Court for Reimbursement; A/P; By
SHANNON McCAFFREY; Jul 26, 2002
Too bad I can't find my reference commentary in order to claim an "I told you so". You're going to have to take my word for it.
Former President Clinton and his wife have
asked a court to have taxpayers reimburse them
for legal costs related to the Whitewater
investigation, their lawyer said late Friday.
About 3 years ago Billie-bob made a big splash about how he will not ask the American taxpayer to pick up their legal bills even though it is open for presidents to do so. A real champion of a man, so he claimed. Yeah, right. I clearly stated then that as soon as he leaves office at the first chance he'd make the taxpayers pay.
The Clintons raked in millions of dollars last
year
after leaving the White House. The former
president earned $9.2 million on the lecture
circuit, and Hillary Rodham Clinton - now New
York's junior senator - received an $2.85 million
advance on her memoirs.
They looted the White House when they left; you think they'd pay their own legal bills? He set up a special fund to receive contributions for all the lawsuits against them; you think they'd pay their own legal bills? He pardoned tax cheats for contributions and Puerto Rican terrorists for votes; you think they'd pay their own legal bills?
But they still have legal bills totaling between
$1.75 million and $6.5 million, according to the
financial disclosure form Mrs. Clinton was
require to file as a member of the Senate. The
Clintons paid $1.3 million in legal bills last year,
according the Senate filing.
Note the story didn't differentiate the legal expenses of the Whitewater scandal and the Monica 'lip service' scandal. Looks like the American taxpayers get to pay presidential blow jobs (my apologies for frankness). This guy has never been known to keep a tight lip, or zipper.
Bring out the Big Gun Now
When the liberal democrats need to make a point do they bring someone out they can trust? If that be the case, they could never bring anyone out then, they don't trust anyone.
PUSH session hears call for Bush probe; July 21,
2002; Chicago Sun Times
This guy is precious. Promise me you won't laugh until you finish.
A call for a special prosecutor to investigate
the
president and top Republicans was among the
notes sounded on the first day of Rainbow/PUSH
Coalition Conference 2002 on Saturday.
Right. The guy who fathered an illegitimate kid with an intern standing by Billie-bob in his intern scandal is calling for an investigation. The guy who shakes down corporations for shakedown money wants to look at the books. The guy who ends up with inexplicable sums of money in business accounts is asking for a right to inspect.
U.S. Rep. John Conyers (D-Mich.) said
President
Bush's trading in corporate stock and Vice
President Dick Cheney's tenure as chief
executive of Halliburton Co., as well as activities
by other high-ranking administration figures,
were questionable enough to merit a Ken
Starr-type federal investigation.
The Bush trade was looked at every election cycle for the last 12 years. It was the democrats who demanded Cheney sell his holding before the elections in the guise of removing any conflict of interest. These guys want it both ways.
He also bashed the Bush administration for
refusing to talk to civil rights groups. In protest,
Jackson plans to hold a prayer vigil Sept. 13 at
the Justice Department in Washington, D.C.
(Ho-hum.) Looks like he's still worried that W is gaining popularity among blacks. Maybe W could send Condoleza Rice or Colin Powell to answer the charges. Better yet, don't bother. Jesse has lost his push (pun intended) anyway. Well maybe not all, he still has that illegitimate child to support.
