Ok, it seems this new Hiking Club
obsession with swimming and 'bagging' bits of water, at all times
of year, is getting a bit out of hand..........!!
There are 16 lakes in the Lake District National Park. The
Challenge is to `bag` all 16 of the lakes in one day during the
Summer Term. A `bag` is constituted by a full-body submersion in
the lake.
The planned route covers approximately 240 miles and takes us for
a lovely scenic drive through the Lake District, including
Birker Fell, Dunnerdale Fells and Newlands passes!
The 16 lakes are visited in this order:
1. Haweswater
2. Ullswater
3. Thirlmere
4. Derwentwater
5. Bassenthwaite
6. Buttermere
7. Crummock Water
8. Loweswater
9. Ennerdale Water
10. Wastwater
11. Elterwater
12. Grasmere
13. Rydal Water
14. Windermere
15. Esthwaite Water
16. Coniston Water
An inspection team completed the proposed
route during the Easter Holidays, confirming lake access points
and parking areas. There is a Planning Meeting Thursday WK3 6pm in Cavendish Colloqium Room,
of the Summer Term for all those interested. The Challenge will
take place in Week9 of the Summer Term of 2003.
Current inspection team members are:

Longton & Andy McCormick awaiting their 'bag' of Ullswater, April 2002
