Our Beginning

Bon Chance became an ASCA recognized kennel in 1986 with one very beautiful Red Tri Aussie, Starstuff Canis Major, and a committment to Obedience. It was planned that the focus would be on training in Obedience to achieve the highest title offered by ASCA. Two more Starstuff Aussies were added in 1987 and 1988. Starstuff Cutting Edge, 'Bran', and Starstuff Lunar Eclipse, 'Lunar', became Bon Chance residents and all three were well on their way to careers in Obedience. All did very well, with many First Place scores and High In Trial honors.

In 1991, we had our first litter at Bon Chance when 'Bran', was bred to Major. From that litter, Bon Chance Morning Star Cutter became a member of the 'Bunch' and, also, became an Obedience candidate.

Later additions to our 'Bunch' have been Prizm Nightbird of Bon Chance, aka Raven and Can-Am's Richard the Lionhartd, 'Ratchy'. Raven is a Lunar grandaughter and Ratchy is a wonderful Mistretta boy.

In September, 1996 a breeding of Starstuff Lunar Eclipse to Prizm's Marmalade Skies added a long-awaited, beautiful Red Tri girl to our Family. Bon Chance Eclipse of Fire was born and with her came our entrance into the Conformation Ring. 'Sunshine' as she is known, is our brightest star and well on her way to her Championship.

In February, 1998 a Ratchy/Raven litter gave Bon Chance four Blue Merle puppies. Panda and Troubl, the two still living at Bon Chance are being trained for Obedience. 

Early in 2000 a lively, lovely Blue Merle came to live at Bon Chance. Riatta's InTheNikofTime BC has joined the 'Bunch'. This 'Thunder' daughter has the potential to do it all. Watch for her throughout the year and into the next. Our Thanks to Nancy Garcia and Riatta for sending her to us.

In August 2000 a long-planned breeding between SkyeMars 'ThunderOnTheMountn' and Sunshine gave us six beautiful puppies and all four colors to boot. Five of these special puppies will be struttin their stuff soon so watch for them.

We are pleased with the progress of all the Bunch at Bon Chance and are very excited about our future.

Our Goals

Our first desire at Bon Chance is to have and produce a well-rounded Austrialian Shepherd. We are Obedience oriented, but believe that our dogs should get involved in all aspects of what an Aussie can be. We plan to get involved in the herding side of training in the year 2000 and anticipate good results.

We have produced very few litters at Bon Chance, but when we do, it is for the purpose of improving the breed and adding to our kennel. Our next planned litter will be late in the year 2000 when we plan to breed Sunshine. Information about this breeding can be found on her page.

Our Thanks

Since our beginnings, we have met, been influenced by and learned from many people who are involved with this beautiful breed. We got our start from Starstuff Australian Shepherds in Michigan, from whom we obtained our first three Aussies. Our friends at Riatta, Shalako and Callisto have been there over the years with encouragement and advice that has proved invaluable. They have been critical, when necessary, and always helpful and concerned. They are committed to the future of the Australian Shepherd and are dedicated to health issues, breeding correctly and producing Aussies that are well rounded and can do all that this breed was originally developed for.
