------------------
29th June - Gary Nottingham I have done a talk on the
Cunning Folk at the Keele moot back in April and I'm happy to come
along and do the same one. Basically the Cunning Folk where/are users
of a magical tradition that brings everyday results. They would not be
considered pagan or witches as they were often consulted to lift
witchcraft from some one, ie curses and runs of bad luck. They
were consulted for finding things out and for their herbal
knowledge. Indeed the police in Ludlow in 1861 brought in a local
cunning man to track down a thief which he did by walking down Broad st
with a divining rod until he came to the right house!! There were
several well known cunning folk in Shropshire and I would talk about
some of them. The talk will be about 1/2 to 3/4 hours and I'd be
available to answer questions also to tell everyone about the esoteric
conference at the Assembly rooms in Ludlow this coming Sept.
