WHAT ARE THEY REALLY LIKE
JESSIE I often get a call from someone wondering what a Belgian Sheepdog is and what is he like.FAQ In many ways they are like many other herding type dogs, loads of energy, intelligent, and loyal. The Belgian has been bred as a herd dog and as a guard dog, these insticts are still present. It is part of what makes a Belgian so easy to train and loyal to his family. He is agile, a problem solver, persistant and quick. Once trained their response is immediate. All these qualities allow him to excel at obedience, agility, tracking, and flyball. Belgians are also found working in Search and Rescue, police k9 units, and of course herding. However all dogs need training and socializing to make the most of their abilities and instincts. TIA AND KIRA Belgians love to run and are beautiful to watch in motion. They are highly social, and play wildly. He is happiest (easier to live with) when his exercise needs are met and most content when he is near his family.

Like kids? Kids are always in mootion, have time to throw sticks, balls, and frisbees, not to mention they are always dropping FRISBEE - WHO'S QUICKERfood. Sounds like something a Belgian would love. My boys have always hung around the kids waiting endlessly for a game of fetch or ...food. Just remember kids and dogs need to be taught how to play with one another and it is always wise to keep an eye on them.

Belgians can develop quirky habits. Such as nose poking for attention. Some are water diggers, most prefer their water bowl for this activity. Belgians have highly sensitive, and inquisitive minds, whoever said dogs don't think obviously never observed this breed very closely.

BIG HUGS They are very easy to train, and respond best to positive training methods. Belgians are most affectionate with their families. You may need to get used to a wet nose in your hand and a head poking under your elbow. Something that is not often mentioned is that a Belgian has no noticeable doggy smell, it takes on the smell of whatever it sleeps on (or rolled in last). These breeds are wonderfully rewarding to own; however:
