Born in Montour Falls, New York, Tere Ayers remembers her first solo happening at the age of three or four – “Away in the Manger” – in the church Christmas program. She’s been blessing audiences and congregations ever since with her powerful voice fueled by a vibrant faith and beautiful Christian spirit.
In July of 1992, Tere attended her first Southern Gospel concert in more than twenty years. “I’d been singing contemporary Christian music up to that point but, listening to The Kingsmen Quartet that night, I realized what my ministry had been missing. While it’s nice to have people tell you that you have a beautiful voice, it’s so much more satisfying to have them say ‘that song blessed my heart’ or ‘that song was just what I needed to hear for this trial I’m going through’. Southern Gospel music is all about the message and not the messenger,” says Tere.
Inspired by that passion for Southern Gospel music Tere formed Ayers Family Music Ministries in October of 1993 with her brother, Dan, his wife, Jessie, and their three children. According to Tere, “We put the word out that we were available for pulpit supply and special events.” News travels fast and it wasn’t long before the family was pleasing audiences all over New York and Pennsylvania. In 1995 the Ayers Family traveled to Nashville, Tennessee to record their first project, “On Our Way”, at Eddie Crook Studios on the Harvest Record label.
In 1994, as part of her home church’s 125th anniversary, Tere promoted her first Southern Gospel concert. Greater Vision was the guest artist. Since then she has brought such artists as The Kingsmen, The Melody Boys, Kirk Talley and Tony Gore & Majesty, among others to central New York. “I believe that New York holds a whole new audience eager to hear and embrace Southern Gospel music. I’m honored that God has seen fit to use me as his messenger.” As a result of promoting those concerts, Tere has been privileged to work with some of the best in Southern Gospel. She has opened for and shared stages with such artists as Won By One, The Kingsmen, Tony Gore & Majesty, Randy Miller, Tim and Mary Alice Lovelace, Lumber River, The Anchormen, Kirk Talley and The Melody Boys, among others.
In 1998 Tere co-produced the second Ayers Family project, “On The Glory Road” and her debut solo recording, “He’s Here With Me.” She has since made appearances in South Carolina, Virginia, North Carolina, Ohio and Kentucky.
Now making her home in Atlanta, Georgia, Tere Ayers is sure to bless your heart with her wide vocal range and a repertoire that includes country, blues, jazz and traditional a cappella hymns, all with a strong Gospel message.
