Lyrics Trivia
Did you know how many songs performed by the Grateful Dead mention the words "grateful" and "dead"?  "Grateful" never appears in any Dead song.  "Dead"  is in 27 songs, 9 of them being original Dead tunes, as opposed to "alive" which appears only 10 times.

Here is some more practically useless lyrics trivia.

What animal is mentioned in the most Dead songs?  "Cat" wins with eleven.  "Dog" is second with nine, but if you include the four songs with "hound", canines are in first place with 13.  Birds are also popular (8).  Bears, fish, eagles, wolves, and rats each are in three songs.  Horses, mules, terrapins, owls, and monkeys are each in two songs.

How about forms of transportation?  Trains, of course, are the most frequently mentioned with 34.  Boats/ships appear in 17 songs, followed by airplanes/planes (6), cars (4), and trucks (4).

What city appears most often?  New Orleans is first with 9 songs, followed by New York (6) and San Francisco (5).

When it comes to supreme spiritual beings, "Lord" is in 31 songs.  "God" is mentioned in 18 songs, "Jesus" in three, and "Allah" in two.  On the other hand, "devil" is only in  7 songs.

States?  California (7), Texas (6), Colorado (3), and Utah (2).

Drinks?  Although water appears in 24 songs, it is not as a drink in many of them.  The winner is wine (21).  Whiskey is mentioned in 10 songs and gin in 4.

      Colors?  Blue (33), black (27), red (19) green (15), white (13), gray (7), and yellow (5).

The most popular flower in Dead songs in no surprise.  Rose (17).

"Friend(s)" appear in 37 songs compared to "enemy" in 18.

Love vs. hate?  "Love" wins 112 to 8.

Work vs. play?  "Play" wins 25 to 19.

Cry/crying/cries vs. laugh?  The "cries" have it 42 to 19.

And if that trivia isn't trivial enough, what playing cards are mentioned in Dead tunes?  It's a four way tie - Ace of Spades, Queen of Spades, Queen of Diamonds, and Jack of Diamonds are each in one song.
