Bob Weir has recorded several albums beginning in the seventies with his first solo album, "Ace".  Since 1995 he has been involved heavily in the Furthur Festival and with his band, Rat Dog.  Their album "Evening Moods" was released in 2000.  The band members for this recording were Matthew Kelly of Kingfish (harmonica), Mickey Hart and Jay Lane (drums), Mark Karan (guitar), Jeff Chimenti (keyboards), Rob Wasserman (bass), Kenny Broos and Eric Crystal (sax), and Robbie Kwock (trumpet).

Mickey Hart temporarily left the Dead in 1972 to record his solo "Rolling Thunder".  He too is a big part of the Furthur Festival and has played with Ratdog.  His latest solo release was "Spirit into Sound" in 2000.  You better like drums if you want to listen to Mickey's music.

Phil Lesh and his band, Phil and Friends, are involved in charitable causes, especially blood drives.  In 1999 his solo album "Love Will See You Through", featuring several Dead tunes,  was released.

Bill Kreutzman released "Backbone" in 1998 which has mostly blues songs including the Dead's "New Speedway Boogie".

Vince Welnick made a solo album which was also released in 1998 called "Missing Fan Formation".  Bobby Vega (Kingfish)  plays bass and wrote one song.  Most of the songs are written by Vince and Robert Hunter.

Bruce Hornsby was the leader of his band Bruce Hornsby and the Range in the late eighties before he joined the Grateful Dead.  He has had several solo projects since then.  The latest is "Here Comes the Noisemakers" in 2000.
