Going back to school at the age of 35 wasn't the easiest thing I ever had to do. Before I went to college I had to get my GED.  The anxiety was overwhelming at times, first I thought I would be out of place going to college being older and then the course work, I wasn't sure if I could really pull it off.

After three years of hard work I did graduate from Westmoreland County Community College, as Office Administrative Word Processor. I amazed myself, I made the Dean's list once and for the most part I was an A & B student. I excelled in my computer classes which is great considering that is what I needed the most. The one class I dreaded the most was College Writing, it just sent a panic over me, once I started the class I thought, "this isn't so bad" I ended up with an A.

I tried three different ways to take my course:

Traditional  classroom

We are know about the traditional classroom, where you have to sit and sometimes you are so bored.  You think it I have to attend one more class I will scream. I remember this all to well, an English class I had was full of teenagers and early 20 year old. I had to sit two days a week and listen to them cut-up and talk about the next party they were going to.

Telecourse

Is watching video tapes and reading the book and taking test. I have to say this is by far the harder way to go. You really have to pace yourself, because in one class there was only two test to cover the whole book so you knew you had to really know the material.

On-line

Some had the wrong idea about online course, it is not self pace. You are given a schedule for each week for work that needs to be done. Most professors will give lecture notes and are there just as in a regular class-room. Really the only difference from online and traditional classroom is that you don't have to go to the college and sit in class. Everything is done on the computer, even your test (which is nice become it becomes an open book test) drawback, most professors time their test so the book and notes are not always useful.

I mixed up these three throughout each semester.  Not all classes are offered in all three ways, some you had to go to the traditional class. I found I liked the online way better. For one I didn't have to drive back and forth to class, I found that the teachers were right there to help me, and last it gave me the time I needed at home to be with my family or do the things I needed to each day.
