30th Bomb Group |
The 30th Bombardment Group was activated on 15 January 1941. Crews from three squadrons of the Group were sent to Alaska in June 1942 on temporary duty to augment the forces in the state. The crews came from the 21st, 27th and 392nd Bombardment Squadrons. The crews from the 30 Bombardment Group (H) started initial operations against the Japanese in the Aleutians on 11 June 1942.
The original flight echelon detachment operated along with the 27th Provisional Squadron and the 38th Provisional Squadron which was part of the 28th Composite Group. In August of 1942 these detachments, with some other newly arrived personnel, became the 21st Bombardment Squadron flight echelon, combining on 20 August 1942 with the first contingent of the entire organization to become the 21st Bombardment Squadron (H).
