Summary: I pulled a character from another one of my stories. So in case you get confused that is why. The character pulled is from Happy Birthday Miss Parker. This story is about Jarod leaving his family to help an old friend out. Parker learns some more information about her father death.

Parker came home from a long day at work to find a suitcase packed and sitting by the door. She yelled for Jarod. He came out of the bedroom.

"Oh, good. You're home." he said smiling.

"Yeah, I maybe home but what is this?" she asked pointed at his suitcase.

"Well, I'm leaving."

Before he could finish, she said, "What? You're leaving me. Let's talk about it."

Jarod started laughing. "No, I'm not leaving, leaving. I am leaving for a few days."

"Oh." she said. She walked over to the couch and laid her things down. She turned back around and said, "Why?"

"I got a call from an old friend today. She needs my help."

"She." she says.

"Yes, she. Don't worry. I will be home soon."

"Jarod, wait. Can't we talk about this."

"I will explain everything when I get back. I have to go." He picked up his suitcase and headed out the door. Parker stood there. She couldn't believe he just walked out.

Jarod got outside and realized what just happened. He walked back in and said, "If you will drive me to the airport I will explain everything now."

Parker smiled. "Okay, but this better be good." She gathered her purse and keys and walked out with him. She drove him to the airport. "Tell me why you are leaving."

"Okay her name is Danielle. I meet her a long time ago. Her husband got killed and I helped her find his killer. She found out she was pregnant and didn't get to tell him before he died. She is having problems with her son and wanted to know if I could help her."

"I don't understand." Parker said.

"See, I haven't helped anyone in a while. It is the least thing I can do. Do you follow?"

"Yes, I do." she answered. She remembered Broots asking help with Debbie. She pulled up to the airport and parked. "Can I walk you in?"

"I would love for you to." he answered.

He got checked in and found his gate. Parker stood with him while they were waiting on the plane. "Jarod, I love you." she said as she she put her arm around him.

"I love you too." he answered. He looked up at her. "I forgot. How was your day?"

"The same. I'm going to miss you."

"I'm going to miss you too." He kissed her. "Give the kids my love while I am gone."

"I will. Where are the kids?" she asked.

"Oh, Debbie has them. I didn't know when you would be home so I asked her to watch them til you got there."

She saw the plane coming in. They were getting ready to board people. "Jarod." she said.

"I know. It's hard. I will be home before you know it." he kissed her forehead.

She held onto his hand tighter. When it got time for him to board he kissed her lips. "I love you." he whispered in her ear.

"I love you too." she watched him board and the plane leave. She stood there a minute before leaving. That was the first time he left since they left together. She drove home and picked up the kids.

The next morning, Parker went to work. Broots comes in. "Parker, I have some of the information you asked about."

"Good." she said. He handed her some papers. She read over them. "Thanks." she got up and headed toward Sydney's office. Broots followed her.

"Syd, look at this." she handed them to him.

Sydney looked over them and said, "Raines was going to blackmail your father."

"It looks like it." she said as she paced back and forth.

Sydney continued looking through the papers. Broots watched Parker. "Is there something bothering you?" he asked.

"No, why?"

"You look distracted. Is everything okay with you and Jarod?"

She looked over at Broots and raised one eyebrow. "Sorry, I asked." he quickly said.

"Oh, it's okay. It's just that Jarod left and I haven't been able to sleep."

"Jarod left." they said at the same time.

"Yes. Oh, it's not want you think." she walked out.

Broots and Sydney looked at each other. They quickly followed her. "Parker, wait." Sydney said.

"What?" she said as she turned to face them.

"There is something else you might want to see." Sydney said changing the subject.

Parker walked back over to them and said, "Not here." They walked back into his office. Parker looked through them again. "Raines was killed with nitgen gas."

"Yeah. It looks like someone switched tanks before and after the died." Broots said.

"I wonder who did it." Parker said softly. Lyle walked in.

"What's going on?" he asked.

"That is something I would like to ask you." she said as she handed the papers back to Sydney.

"I don't know what you are talking about."

"Lyle, why don't you tell me what really happened to Daddy?"

"He had a heart attack. You know that."

Parker looked at him and walked out. Lyle knew she knew something. He turned around and walked out behind her.

Later in the afternoon, Parker found Broots again. "Broots." she said as she walked into his office.

He jumped. "Yeah."

"See what you can find out about daddy death?"

"I'm already on it."

"Oh, one more thing."

"Yeah." he said.

"Do you think Debbie could stay over at my house tonight?"

"I guess. Are you sure you are okay?"

"Do you want me to pick her up or will you drop her off?" Parker asked trying not to answer his question.

"I can bring her."

Parker walked out. Broots went back to his computer.

Broots dropped Debbie off at Parker's house. Catherine meet her at the door. They took off. "Thanks, Broots."

"You're welcome. Oh, I almost forgot. Here is the information you wanted." he handed her some more papers.

"Thanks." Broots left. Parker sat them down and joined her kids. After a night of getting them settled in for bed. Parker laid a wake in bed. She missed Jarod. It wasn't long until Sydney started crying. Parker got up to check on her. She held her tight in her arms. She remembered when she used to do this with Catherine after Jarod left.

Sydney looked up at her and said, "Dada."

Parker looked down at her. That was the first time she said dada. Parker smiled. "Now, say mama." Sydney just looked up at her twirling her tiny fingers in Parker's hair. "Dada." she said again.

Parker started to cry. "He's not here." She wiped her tear and picked up the papers Broots brought her. She started going through them as Sydney sat in her lap. Debbie saw a light on and came in there. Parker saw her coming. "I didn't mean to bother you."

"You didn't." she said as she sat down beside Parker. She took Sydney from her arms. "I know you miss him."

Parker glanced at her and said, "How...never mind. Well, do you want to watch TV? Sydney is in no big hurry to go back to bed."

"Sure." Parker handed her the remote. Debbie turned on the TV. Armageddon was on. "This is going off." Debbie said.

Parker sat there not paying any attention to the TV. She read over the papers. "This part is sad." Debbie said.

Parker looked up and saw Bruce Willis talking to his daughter. "I know I promised I was coming back..." Parker heard this and watched as his daughter touched the monitor. "I love you." she said to her father. A tear came to her face. She remembered her father. She got up and went to the bathroom. Debbie watched her leave. Sydney had fell asleep in her arms. She laid her down and went to the bathroom. She knocked on the door.

"Yeah." Parker said.

"Are you okay?" she asked as Parker opened the door.

"Yeah. I'm fine."

"Sydney is asleep. I laid her in her bed."

"Thanks. I'm going to bed." Parker said. She wasn't in the mood to talk. Even though it might do her some good.

"Me too." Debbie said.

Parker went back to bed. She laid there awake for a while. Then fell asleep. As she drifted off to sleep she had flash backs of her father. She cried out. Debbie came into her room.

"It's okay." she said to Parker.

Parker looked over to her. "How did you get so smart?"

"I don't know. I guess you could say, I know what it is like to lose a parent." They sat up and talked until morning. Parker felt better. She got ready for work. She drop the kids off at school and a sitter. She went to work.

*********

Several days later, Jarod called. He was coming home. Parker couldn't wait. Broots walked into her office before she left to get him.

"Broots, just the man I was looking for. It seems daddy had traces of viagra in his blood. I don't think that is what killed him. I think it was something else. Do you think you could see what Brigette was doing a few days before his death."

"Yeah." he turned to walk out. "Parker."

"Yeah." she answered.

"Debbie told me you two talked."

"You have a smart girl but if you tell anyone else about this, you will be in a lot of pain. Do you understand?"

"Clearly." he said and lefted.

Parker went to the airport and waited on Jarod. He stepped off the plane and walked in the terminal. Parker smiled as she saw him coming closer to her. He picked her up and kissed her. "I missed you." he said.

"Not as much I missed you." she said. "Come on, let's go home." She drove him home. Sydney looked up at her daddy and said, "Dada."

"Did you hear her?"

"Yes, that is all she has said since you have been gone."

Jarod picked her up. He gave her a hug." Jarod helped with bathes and tucking them in. He missed that while he was gone. After everyone got to bed, Parker meet him back in their bedroom. "I really missed you." she said as she walked over to him on the bed.

"I missed you too. I hope things went well while I was gone."

"Yes. They did." She kissed his lips. He held her tight in his arms.

"Did I miss anything?" he asked.

"No." she answered as she kissed him again.

"Are you sure?" he asked again.

She pulled away from him and said, "No. Everything went fine. Why do you keep asking?"

"Because you act like something is bothering you."

"Nothing is bothering me. Well, except for the fact I haven't got you in bed yet." she said smiling.

"Oh." he said. He took her into his arms and pulled her down on top of him. He kissed her lips and held her tight the rest of the night.

The End!
