For The Love of Daddy
By: G. Barton

Parker was laying on the couch. Jarod was wrestling around on the floor with the kids.

"Guys, cut it out." Parker said.

"Uh oh, we made mommy mad." Jarod whispered to them.

"You didn't make me mad. You are just making too much noise." she said as she watched them.

"Okay guys, lets go outside." Jarod said. They went outside, leaving Parker alone with Sydney.

While they were gone Parker decided to get some things done around the house. As she was cleaning, she found some old photos. One had her father in it. She forgot she had it. She looked at it and said, "Oh daddy. I can't believe you anymore." She quickly put the photo up. She heard Sydney moving around in her crib. She went to see what she was doing. She peaked over the side and saw that she rolled over to her side. She was looking up at her mother and smiling. "Look at you." Parker said as she picked her up. She gave her daughter a kiss and held her tight in her arms.

Jarod walked back in the house. He saw Parker with Sydney. He smiled as she turned around and saw him standing there.

"What?" she said looking at him smiling.

"Nothing." he answered and walked on by her.

"No, tell me." she said as he started up the stairs.

He turned and said, "You."

"What about me?" she asked.

"You looked like your mother, then." He kept going up the stairs.

"What are you talking about?"

"The picture of your mother holding you when you were about that size. You know the picture on her desk at work."

"You know the pictures on my desk." she said confused. She didn't remember having Jarod in her office.

"Yeah, I used to go in there after you left at night. I would sit in your chair and stare at those pictures. I could still smell the cologne you wore everyday."

"You went in my office. Why?" she asked.

"Because I was jealous. You had your mother at least, for a while. You knew who she was. I don't even have memories of my mother like that, much less pictures." he said softly. He turned to go into the bathroom.

Parker watched him as he shut the door. She followed him to the door. "Jarod." she said outside the door.

"Yeah." he answered.

"I'm sorry." she said.

"It's okay. My kids aren't going to forget about me." he said as he opened the door and saw her standing there. He smiled at her and said, "That is what cameras are for." He walked back down the stairs and back out to play with his kids. Parker followed him out. She put Sydney in a carrier and join them.

They played for a while and Parker went back in. After a while she came down the stairs and found Jarod on the couch.

"Where are the kids?" she asked.

"Sydney and Angelo came by and took them out for ice cream."

"Oh. What are you watching?" she said as she looked at the TV.

"Well, I don't know what it is called but do you see that woman."

"Yeah."

"She is chasing this man. She trying to bring him in. She is the same woman from that ER episode I was watching the other day."

"Now, I see why you are watching this show." she said sarcastically. She looked over at him and asked, "Do you miss running?"

"No. Why?"

"Because it sounds like our life. She is chasing him. I chased you."

"Yeah, but look at her. If I was him I would want her to catch me."

"Oh, you would, would you?" she asked as she threw a pillow at him.

"I'm not saying she is better looking than you."

"Then, what are you saying?"

"I'm saying if I was him and I'm not. But if I was I wouldn't want anybody else chasing me. She is nice looking." he said softly.

"Well, that is okay."

"It is?" he asked surprisely.

"Yeah, he looks hot. If I was her and I'm not saying that I am. But if I was I was I couldn't think of anybody else I would want to chase. Do you think she will catch him?" She walked over to him and staddled him.

"I don't know but I would want her to if she kept me." he said smiling.

She bent down to kiss him. He pulled her closer. He kissed her neck. Then the phone rang. "Let it ring." he said.

"I am." she whispered. He kissed her again. He started to unbutton her shirt. When Broots came running through the front door.

"Uh...uh...I'm sorry." he quickly said as he saw them on the couch.

"Broots, don't you knock!" she yelled.

"I'm sorry. I tried to call."

"I know. We didn't answer. What do you want?" she asked hatefully.

"Well..." he started to tell her when the phone rang again.

"What?" she answered.

"Parker, it's me Sam."

"Sam." she said. Jarod and Broots saw her face expression. She got up from Jarod's lap. She walked toward the kitchen. "What is it?" she asked him.

"Parker, I hate to tell you but your father is dead."

"What do you mean he is dead?" she asked.

"I mean he is gone."

"How?" she asked.

Changing the subject Sam said, "I know you didn't want him to know where you were but I thought you had the right to know."

"Thanks, Sam but how did he die?" she asked again.

"It wasn't bad." he said.

"Are you going to tell me or not?"

"It just wasn't bad, Parker. I don't know if you really want to know."

"Come on, Sam. He was my father. Tell me."

"Okay, it was a heartattack."

"That wasn't too bad." she answers. "I thought you were going to say it was a car wreck or something bad."

"Well, you haven't heard all of it." Sam pasued. "He was in bed with Brigette when he had it." he says softly.

"She killed my father." she says angrily.

"I told you, you didn't want to know." he says.

"Thanks for calling. When is the funeral?"

"I don't know." he answers.

"I will be in touch." she tells him before hanging up the phone.

She walks back in the livingroom. "What did Sam want?" Jarod asked.

"My father...he's dead." she says lowering her voice.

"I'm sorry, Parker." Broots says.

"What did you want, Broots?" she asked as she sat down the phone.

"Oh, yeah. I came to tell you Raines is dead."

Jarod looked at her and said, "There is something fishy about this."

"When did he die, Broots?" she asked.

"A couple of days ago. Why?"

"That was right before my father died." she says softly.

Jarod walks over to her and says, "How did he die?"

"Sam said a heartattack."

"That's not bad. It could happen to him at that age."

"He was with Brigette." she says.

"Oh!" Jarod and Broots said at the same time.

"Broots, I want you to find out any and everything about their death."

"Why?" he asked.

"Just do it?" she snapped at him. She took off toward the stairs. Jarod heard the bedroom door close.

Broots turned toward Jarod and said, "I'm going home now. If you need me, you know where I will be."

"Thanks Broots." he says as he walks him out. Sydney brought back the kids and sees Broots on his way out.

"What's wrong?" he asked Jarod.

"Syd, can you watch the kids for a little longer? Broots can tell you everything."

"Sure." he takes Sydney from Jarod's arms and they walk home.

Jarod sat down in the chair. He wanted to leave her alone for a while but couldn't take it. He gets up and goes to the bedroom. He opens the door and find her staring out the window. "It's beautiful out there today." she says. She knows he is standing there.

"Yeah. Are you okay?" he asked softly as he saw the tears forming in her eyes.

She turns and faces Jarod. "I'm going back."

"Why?" he asked.

"Because I have to."

"It's over. We can live out the rest of our lives free from that place. Besides there is nothing you can do now." he replies.

"Yes, there is."

"What?" he asked.

"Take back what is mine."

"What? The Centre. Why do you want with it? Just forget about it. We are free now."

"I can't. Don't you understand, Lyle will take over where they left off. He has to be stopped. I am sure Brigette is behind the whole thing. We can stop them together." she says as she walks over to him.

Jarod knowing there is no way to change her mind, says, "Fine. You can go but me and the kids are staying here."

"That's fine." she says softly. She walks over to him and says, "Thank you."

"For what?"

"For understanding."

"But I don't." he whispers in her ear. "I do love you and if this is what you want then I am behind you all the way. Just don't expect me and the kids to follow."

"I'm not saying that I am moving back. I am just saying I have to go back and if you and the kids want to stay here, that is fine. I love you Jarod." she says as she puts her arms around him.

"I love you too." he answers.

The End!
