Based out of Kingsville, Texas, the task force serves the South Texas counties of Kleberg, Kenedy, Brooks and Jim Wells.

The Task Force is funded by a matching grant from the Texas Narcotics Control Program out of the Governor's Office. The agencies participating have not had to provide their share of funding since the task force was organized in 1990. Since that first year the Task Force has been able to meet its cash match with monies from seized assets.

The Task Force works very closely with the United States Border Patrol, which has checkpoints in Sarita, Texas (US-77) and Falfurrias, Texas (US-281).

The Task Force also works very closely with other federal agencies like U.S Customs, DEA, FBI and IRS.

Two Task Force agents are U.S. Customs cross-designated. Also in our area of jurisdiction is an Inner Coastal Waterway (ICW)which runs from South Padre Island up past Corpus Christi.

The Task Force has three interdiction units and two drug detection K-9s working the two major narcotics thoroughfares (US77 and US281) which lead from the Rio Grande Valley (southern tip of Texas and northern Mexico) to the north.

One of our K-9's is trained to track people and is called upon frequently to help area agencies search for missing people and fleeing suspects.

The Task Force's staff is comprised of a Commander, an Assisatnt Commander, a Senior Agent, nine Special Agents, two Administrative support staff personnel, a part-time law clerk and an Army National Guard Gaurdsman. The Project Director for the task force is City of Kingsville City Attorney, Courtney Alvarez.

Our goal is to stem the flow of illegal drugs from the south to the north and to investigate specialized crimes such as money laundering. We also make every effort to support our participating agencies in their efforts to stem the flow of illegal narcotics that poison our society and our local communities.

Our agents do anti-drug work in the local communities, working undercover buying and selling narcotics to help clean our area streets of drug dealers and make our area a safe, healthy place to live.

Our agents have also been known to negotiate drug deals with people (buying and selling) from all over the United States and make arrests for such offenses. Many of our investigations lead to northern states where the profit for narcotics is higher.

With every load of illegal drugs that goes north, cash is sent south. We try to hurt the dealers both ways by seizing their drugs as they go north and their cash as it goes south.
