How the Internet Has Affected My Education

I still recall the blank stare on my face as I encountered the Internet for the first time.  For my seventh grade tech. ed. class, we were required to surf the web and document a couple of sites that interest us.  To be honest, I didn't even have a clue what one could do or the resources available on the Internet.

Today, this feeling of helplessness, has been replaced by an overwhelming feeling of power.  The opportunities of e-mail alone are astounding.  Long gone are the days when I have to hand write every letter, using white out to fix mistakes.  Here at UW-Eau Claire, e-mail is my lifeline.  From any computer on campus I can access my e-mail account.  The speed of relaying information has allowed me to receive timely responses from professors, family, and friends.  Especially with professors, e-mail has allowed me to send a question and receive a response from the professor when they find it convenient.

The World Wide Web has provided me with a wealth of information to incorporate in my research papers.  Scholarly journals, newspapers, and magazines are all available at the touch of one's finger tips.  Long gone is the excuse that "I couldn't find any information."  On the flip side, posting a website is just as easy as finding accessing a website.  While researching information I have been forced to read with a skeptic eye.

My knowledge of the web is expanding every day.  For example, this is officially my first experience creating a personal website.  I would have never thought that one day I would be voicing my opinion on the Internet for all the world to see.  Overall, this intercommunication system has been beneficial for convenience and as an educational resource.
