HomeSchooled?
entering High School?
Hopeful but Uncertain? What about College?

Welcome to High-School Home-Schoolers Together, a web community of home-schoolers just like you facing the same issues
...how can my parents teach the material? how -- or will -- colleges accept home-education??Am I missing the social-life of high-school ... such as sports, cheer-leading, prom?

"Am I doing the right thing home-schooling into the high-school???If so, how do I handle all the issues that arise?

Are you doing the right thing???Finally, there is only one person who can decide: YOU.  The home-schooling student -- Not your peers, Not a thousand books, brochures, and websites, certainly not the school districts (all they want is money for your being enrolled with them), and not even your parents. Many of these can help you, but if you don't really want to do it ... it wont work for your good.
My word of advice: To succeed with home-education in the higher grades you have to not only want to do it, but be able to be independent and take charge of your education.?Take a look back at the page title: home-schooling in high school is self schooling.  At this stage of your education your parents can't continue to teach you everything, but it doesn't mean you have to turn to the school systems, it means you need to be a little more active and seek out what you need.  The most important thing your parent can do is "teach you to teach yourself".

These message Boards are a central feature of Home-School + HighSchool = Self-School!!!  I believe that as we are a small community of home-schoolers in high-school and we need to build the grapevine amongst ourselves.  We have a place for everonye to discuss their concerns, ask questions, debate topics of interest, meet each other.  Have fun and answer find answers to your questions here.

See what representatives from various universities have to say about home-schooling applicants.  These are actual quotes collected from the colleges.

These are links to stories of "Gifted" kids.  Many home schoolers, including myself, are further academically advanced.  I find these stories intersting to read, and thought I should share them here.  I also wish people would rid there mind of a hundred steryotypes they have about us  (but that's a whole new issue, and not for now).

Homeschooling and Socialization - stories and excerpts. I'll cut to the bottom line: you need to seek out opportunities for socialization in the community. But once you do, through home education, you have the opportunity for much more exciting experiences then ever possible if locked in a classroom from 8 to 3 each day. Suck up the myth that homeschoolers are social nerds and remember you are who you are regardless of how you educate, and home-schooling allows you to best express that, academically and socially.

Share your viewpoints and see others people's thoughts.  Why do people home-school? What type of people do it?

I am the Web-Mistress Sonya Dave'.  I was Home-Educated, along with my brother, since I was in 4th Grade.  I graduated college in 2002 and am currently a Neuroscience graduate student (read more in my Autobiography. With Home-School + High School = Self-School, I have wanted to be able to use my web skills and home-education experiences to help other home-schoolers and create an online community of High School home-schoolers.
