Ted Who?

Ted, the grandson of Grace Annie Mae Saylor, that's who!  Grace was my maternal grandmother and a very important lady in my life.  However, it's not possible to say that any one of the women who have been teachers and/or companions to me has been the most important. They have all given freely and out of love and I am in their debt forever.

Let me share with you some of Grace Saylor's own words written towards the end of her life.

I was born in 1884 of good parents George Kettlewell and Fanny Lakin.  My mother came from England and was born here at Elgin county in 1855.  My father's people came over from England a few years back and my Grandmother Kettlewell was 15  when she married. She had 12 children.  2 of them died in infancy but I remember all the rest of them.  There were 4 girls and 6 boys. Then in 1895 my Great Grandpa Tenniswood died.  He was 95. I had started to school by then and I remember when he died.  School kept me pretty busy, although I still had time for play.  When I was 16 my sister Ida married Joe Blackmore then and she played the piano some years.  When I was just about 19 I married Samuel Saylor.  I had 6 children 3 girls and 3 boys.  We used to go to Reunions.  I enjoyed them and one time we went and Verlyn hurt her foot so we had to have her administered to and she got all better.  Dolly took up music and played for our church some years.  Since then its been trying.  My husband died and I was left with 4 the oldest 13 and the youngest 3. However I will say my children were good to me and I've always had their love.

They were devoted to her as were her grandchildren, me included.  She taught me so many things, gave me a conscience, supported my schooling and development, started me thinking about "who my people were". I cannot repay her, I can only continue to make her memory and influence a reality for my family.
