ABOUT MY
AKC MINIATURE DACHSHUND
BREEDING PROGRAM

As the owner of New Life Kennels, I care deeply about each of the dogs in my breeding program. They are very-well cared for, treated as if they are part of the family, have plenty of socialization, and are NOT kept in cages. Each of my dogs knows his or her name and is not afraid of strangers. They are pets as well as breeding dogs.

My dogs have plenty of room to run and play, shelter and fresh air, clean water, lots of food and treats, and they are kept current on all their wormings and vaccinations.

Their dog runs and common backyard are kept immaculately clean at all times, and my dogs have plenty of chew toys and jungle gym equipment to play with. I believe that even though I am a breeder, I still owe it to my dogs to make sure they have a high standard of life. If I couldn't afford to provide this (financially and  time-wise), I would not be breeding. Period.

My primary motive in producing and raising "miniature dachshunds" is to share with as many *responsible*  pet owners as possible the wonderful world of the miniature dachshund. I have found miniature dachshunds to be an extremely loving breed with innately good-natured and outgoing dispositions. I will use discretion as to who buys my puppies. I will never sell to puppy mills or brokers, and most of my puppies will be sold with limited AKC registration.

Warning: Once a dachshund owner, always a dachshund owner. This is one addicting breed of dog! It's true. They are like potato chips. You can't have just one!
ABOUT THE DACHSHUND BREED

The Dachshund (or in German, "Badger Dog") is thought to have originated sometime between 1550 and 1850 in Germany. They were bred to hunt badgers (a vicious saber-clawed antagonist weighing from 25 to 40 lbs), which required specific traits such as courage, stamina and perseverance beyond what is usually expected in any other breed of hunting dog. The Dachshund's legs are constructed so as to actually allow them to "fold" in tight corners. Yet when fully extended, they can cover ground like pistons at amazing speed. The Dachshund's stature, which is close to the ground, allows them to easily enter and navigate inside hollows and holes to hunt.

Dachshunds have an intelligent yet gentle look about them. This is an accurate reflection of their temperament. They make excellent family and house dogs. Though small in size, they make good watch dogs with their surprisingly loud bark. Dachshunds have lively natures and are very loyal to their owners, making them popular companions. They are generally very good with children and other dogs. They have big personalities and will never cease to make you laugh... guaranteed!

Dachshunds comes in three coat varieties: smooth-haired, long-haired, and wire-haired. They also come in a kaleidoscope of colors and patterns.
