HOW COME YOU DON'T CALL ME

Untitled Normal Page
Amy sat in her hotel room feeling very down. She knew it was coming. She couldn't stop the inevitable. The silence on both ends of the phone had been present for about half a hour. It was moments like this when she wished these hotel rooms had a speaker phone, but Amy didn't always get everything she wanted. That was apparent with what was about to happen. The silence made it so much more clearer to Amy that her relationship with Matt Hardy was not going to last under the circumstances they were in. The nonstop demands of the wrestling business threw them into different directions. Matt in the World Wrestling Federation, Amy in Extreme Championship Wrestling. Their schedules consumed the time needed to nuture a relationship.

"Matt, are you still on the phone?" Amy asked with a very straightforward tone of voice.

"Yeah, I'm here, been here."

"Why have you made me sit here for the past forty minutes and listen to you say not one word to me?" Amy replied as she put on a worn out extra large t-shirt over her underwear, her pajamas.

"I'm just scared, Amy. I don't know if you can tell but I am."

"What are you scared of?"

"I'm scared to admit the fact that this ain't gonna last."

Amy sighed as she fell back onto the hotel bed. She ran her fingers through her hair and grabbed her wallet off of the table that stood between the two beds in the room. She opened it and found the picture of her & Matt when they were in happier times. It was sad that it had to end like this.

"What happened to us, Matt?"

"To be honest, I don't believe that this was our fault. There's just no way for you and I to keep doing this with me in the WWF and you in ECW. The only communication we would have with each other would be a phone and letters. Whenever I'm home, you're not. Whenever you're home, I'm not. There's just no way we can do this right now."

"Well, I don't see myself staying at this company because they're not using me the way I want to be used and I don't think I'm asking for too much but I have to settle for this place since I'm really trying to get recognized by the WWF."

"I've told J.R. about you. He knows who you are. He felt the same way you did, he wanted to see what you could do in the ring."

"I'm literally broke, Matt. I'm just not happy over here but Jazz and Dawn Marie keep me content since we've become good friends."

"Who else are you friends with?"

"Uh...Tommy Dreamer, Danny Doring, Tajiri, Roadkill, Rob Van Dam..."

"RVD, huh? That's an old friend of ours. We had some good matches with him back in the day."

"Actually, he introduced me to Dory Funk and I'm supposed to go to his school since he really liked me."

"Jeff and I went there! That's a great school. It's worth every cent."

"Yeah, I had to call mom and ask her for the money since I couldn't afford it myself. I've heard a lot of good stuff about him."

"It's all true. He's an amazing teacher. You'll learn a lot more than you think you will."

"Stop it, Matt. We keep changing the subject. Let's just get it over with."

"I'm sorry. It's just that even though it just couldn't last because of time, I really wanted it to. I wish I could be in ECW just so that I could be with you. I really miss you, girl."

"I do too. I'll still call you and Jeff whenever I get the chance. Let's just be friends for now, okay?"

"Alright, I'm cool with that. Let me know how things turn out with Mr. Funk."

"I will. I'm going home to wash some clothes, run some errands and then, I'll fly out to Florida."

"Well, good luck, Amy."

"Thanks, Matt. You take care."

"I will. Bye."

Even though they ended things on a happy note, they were both hurting on the inside. Before the WWF and ECW came into the picture, they had a wonderful relationship and it just broke both of their hearts that it had to end the way it did.

Amy smiled as she opened the door to her apartment and saw Cody running up to her. She tossed her stuff to the floor and he ran into her arms while she laughed.

"Hey, baby! Hey there! I missed you so much!" Amy said as she gave Cody a big hug and he licked her all over her face.

"Guess what, Cody? I'm going to Florida tomorrow to train with Dory Funk. Oh, yeah, me and Matt broke up." Amy said before Cody barked.

"I know! I can't believe it either, man. We just decided to be friends since we had different schedules that would prevent us from seeing each other. Is there anything in the refrigerator?" Amy opened to refrigerator to see nothing but an empty box of Apple Jacks and a Capri Sun drink.

She grabbed the drink and tossed the box into the garbage can and sighed and looked down at Cody.

"Baby, if I some money, I'd go to the grocery store. I've got twenty dollars in my pocket and you barely have any dog food left. You wanna come with me?" Amy asked before Cody got the message and went to find his leash.

Amy laughed and put her hair into a ponytail before Cody returned with his leash. Amy hooked the leash onto him and opened the door to see Shane Helms standing there with five plastic bags in his hands about to ring the doorbell. Amy looked at him with a weird look on her face while Cody sniffed him.

"Shane, what are you doing here?"

"Matt told me you were coming home and I knew you & Cody didn't have a damn thing in here to eat so I went to store and got all your favorite stuff you like to eat."

"Oh, man, I owe you, Shane. I really do." Amy hugged him and kissed him on the cheek before she took Cody's leash off.

"You want me to put these things in the kitchen?"

"Yeah, go on and sit them in there."

Amy followed Shane into the kitchen and they both sat at her small kitchen table.

"Cody, turn on the TV." Amy said before Cody walked over to the television and put his paw on the power button.

"Who taught him how to do that?"

"I did." Amy smiled.

"Oh, well, how you been doing, girl?"

"I'm alright, man. I could be better though."

"Yeah, Matt told me that you guys broke up."

"We sure did."

"You gonna be okay?" Shane asked.

"I'll be fine. Matt just another boyfriend to me, he was much more. We decided we would rather be friends at this point in time."

"Well, maybe, I can cheer you up. What do you say you and me go bowling?"

"I'd like that." Amy smiled.

"Great, let's get out of here."

*********

Shane pulled into Amy's driveway and turned off the ignition. He looked over at her and she looked back at him. After a minute, they both laughed.

"Man, Amy, I had a great time."

"I did too...considering the fact that I whooped your ass."

"Aw, come on, if I would've gotten a strike instead of that spare, you would be kissing my ass instead."

"It's been awhile since I've had that much fun." Amy said as she got out of the car.

"Yeah, me too." Shane followed her.

"Did you wanna come in and relax for a minute?"

"No, I better go home. You have a busy week ahead of you." Shane replied as he looked into her eyes.

Amy didn't know if Shane felt it but she felt as if the vibe between the two totally changed at that moment. She saw Shane in a different lgiht for some reason. They didn't drink while they were out so she knew she wasn't drunk but for some reason, he was really turning her on.

"Shane, are you thinking what I'm thinking?"

"Yeah, I think I am." Shane said barely beneath a whisper before he kissed Amy with a different kind of passion that she wasn't used to and that absoultely drove her crazy. She felt her head was spinning as Shane scooped her into his arms and gave her satsifaction in every single space inside her mouth. They finally pulled back and caught their short breaths for a minute.

"Shane...what was that?" Amy said, sounding exhausted.

"One of the best kisses in my life." He replied.

"How did this happen? When did you start feeling attracted to me?"

"I don't know. I think it was when you smiled back at me after you won the game. It was so beautiful."

"I've heard that before but when you say it, the words sound so different."

"Really?"

"Shane, here's my cell number and home number." Amy took a pen out of her pocket, grabbed his hand and wrote her phone number in his palm."

"I'll call you."

"I know you will." Amy said as she tossed him the pen and walked into her house feeling very sexy.

********

Amy walked out of the Funking Conservatory feeling more tired than she had ever felt in her life. Tomorrow was the last day and Mr. Funk was making sure that he accomplished everything he wanted to teach today since tomorrow, the students would be working matches with each other to see who would graduate from the school. Amy was the only female and that made the rigorous training much tougher for her but she stood her ground and took it as if she were a man. That's what asked for and he gave it to her.

She walked to her car, tossed her stuff in the backseat and got in her car. She quickly grabbed her cell phone to see if Shane had called her. It had been a week since the incident at her house and he promised he would call her that night but he never did. Amy really wanted to talk to him but once again, he did not call. She wondered if she had done something wrong to him. She couldn't think of anything. All she wanted was someone to talk to. She could really use some encouragement or support from one of her friends right now but all of them were so busy. The fact that Shane had become more than a friend when they kissed made a conversation with him so much more special and important to her right now. She decided she would call Matt to see if he had talked to him. She dialed his cell phone number as she began driving to the motel she was staying at.

"Hello." A familar voice answered.

"Jeff...where your brother at?"

"He's out running errands for dad."

"Damn. Oh, well, how you doing, bro?"

"I'm alright. You tired as hell, ain't you?"

"How could you tell, man?"

"I've been there, girl. Mr. Funk don't play, you work your ass off when you're at his school. Plus, you're a female so it's harder for you but I know you like a challenge."

"Damn right. I told him not to treat me any differently and he's satisfying my request to the fullest."

"Yeah, that's Mr. Funk. Why did you wanna talk to Matt?"

"I was wondering if he had talked to Shane lately."

"No, we ain't talked to him in about a month. I haven't talked to Shannon in quite awhile either."

"I wonder what's up with him."

"Why you wanna talk to Shane?"

"Alright, Jeff, you have to promise me you won't tell anybody 'cause I ain't sure if it's official yet."

"Scout's honor."

"Okay...Shane and I had a make out session last week."

"WHAT?! YOU'RE KIDDING ME!"

"Nope. I don't know what happened. He looked the same, he smelled the same, the next thing I knew, his tongue was in my mouth!"

"Oh, my god." Jeff laughed.

"What are you laughing for? That shit ain't funny. That's why I wanna talk to him. I don't what's going on between us, man."

"Well, if he calls the house, I'll be sure to let him know you want to have a conversation with him."

"Thanks, Jeff."

"No problem, girl. Let me let you go. I'm expecting some company."

"Don't forget to use a condom."

"Fuck you." Jeff laughed.

"See you later, man." Amy smiled.

"Bye."

*********

Amy sat backstage at the ECW show staring at her cell phone. She knew she was acting stupid but she couldn't help it. It had been two weeks now and Shane did not call her. She kept his picture everywhere she went. She thought what they had was good and that's why she couldn't understand why he didn't call her.

"Amy!" Jazz yelled before Amy blinked out of her trance.

"What?"

"I've been calling your damn name for the past five minutes. Stop staring at that stupid phone. That boy ain't gonna call you."

"Yes, he will. He promised me. Shane wouldn't break his promise to me."

"Hold up...have you put his number on speed dial?" Dawn interrupted.

Amy looked at Dawn with a look of sadness on her face for a minute. Silence filled the room as they waited for an answer.

"Yeah." Amy sighed.

"Damn! Why didn't tell me it was that serious, girl?! I'm sorry." Jazz gave Amy a hug.

"I know, I put his number on speed dial yesterday. It's gotten that crucial, y'all. I don't know what it is. He don't even look that good but for some reason, I just want him so bad."

"I've been there, girl. I gave him the best three years of his life and he cheated on me with his own cousin." Jazz shook her head.

"You're kidding me."

"Ain't that some shit? He played my face but that's not important. You're going home tomorrow, ain't you?"

"Yeah, I plan on paying Shane a visit."

"Good luck, girl." Dawn said.

"Thanks, I think Shane's gonna need it more than I do after I'm through with him."

************

Amy parked across the street from Shane's house. She was shocked to see that his car was in the driveway. Now, she was more angry than what she was before. She stormed over to the front door, knocked on it and placed her hands on her hips. Shane opened the door and saw Amy standing there, with tons of attitude in her eyes.

"Hey, Amy."

"Don't you hey me, you bastard. Why in the hell can't you call me?! All I wanted was a phone call from you! Was that so hard or too much to ask for?!"

"Amy, if you would let me explain..."

"I don't wanna hear your stupid explanations. I've heard it all before. I was a fool to even go out with you knowing your intentions. I didn't give you what you really wanted that night so I see why you didn't call me but you should've told me the truth!"

"Amy, that's not the truth. If you would just listen..."

"Shut up! You're nothing but a piece of trash. Why on earth can't you just pick up the phone?! You know I don't like to be alone!"

Shane grabbed Amy, retrained her against the wall of his house and made her look at his hands.

"Amy, the reason I didn't call you was because on that night, by the time I had gotten home, the number had smeared off of my skin. I couldn't make out the numbers and I could never get in contact with Matt or Jeff to ask them what your number was. I lost it, Amy!" Shane said.

Amy felt like she was the laughing stock of the whole world. She felt so embarassed. She felt like crying but then, Shane looked at her with a smile on his face and they both started laughing.

"Amy, you are one wild girl."

"Well, I'm a wild girl who has a meeting with Jim Ross next week."

"What?!"

"Yeah, Mr. Funk sent him a tape of the stuff I did at his school and J.R. liked it. He called me right before I came over here."

"That's wonderful, Amy. Congratulations!" Shane hugged Amy.

"Shane, can I use your phone?"

"I know exactly who you're gonna call. It was fun while it lasted, Amy."

"Yeah, it was cool." Amy laughed before she grabbed Shane's cordless phone and dialed Matt's cell phone number.

"Hello?"

"Matt...I think we can give it another try."

"Amy, is this you? What are you talking about?"

"I just went through a little something with Shane that made me realize how much I really love you."

"Really?"

"Yeah, I wanna be with you, nobody else."

"Okay, let's give this one more chance."

With that said and the meeting with Jim Ross next week, Amy felt her life was coming all together. All the pain and sacrifice was finally paying off and she couldn't thank God enough for his blessings.

The End.
