Twist of Fate

PART SEVEN OF "GIRLFRIEND"

"What?" He asked, laughing as he saw the serious look on her face.

"You heard me, I'm jealous of Amy." Trish said folding her arms over her chest, her eyes meeting with his.

"Amy is not my girlfriend."

"Yes she is. She’s a girl that’s a friend, a girlfriend.

"Why would you be jealous of her since we've never been more than friends."

"Y'all are more than friends, Jeff. Maybe you’ve never had the intimacy of lovers or the closeness of being a part of one another, but you have something special with her. You two are like family. She has a special part of you that I will never have. I can‘t even get as close as she is to you."

"You’re right. We're very close, Trish. She's my best friend next to my dad and Shannon, but I care for you in a different way."

"I know you two are close but it’s just...I don't know how to explain. I'm just jealous. I know she has no intention of coming between us but there is a possibility that I can't get out of my mind."

"Trish, I don't appreciate you accusing my sister of trying to break us apart. She was very happy when I told her we were together. So I don't what the hell has gotten into your mind to make you think an angel like Amy would want to do something wrong like that." Jeff said before walking away feeling very pissed off.

Amy sat in the passenger seat of the car with Matt, Jeff and Shane. She was feeling kind of down about herself. She felt kind of responsible for the conflict that Jeff and Trish had earlier.

"Girl, it ain't your fault. It's Trish's problem, she'll deal with it in her own way." Jeff said rubbing her shoulders from the backseat.

"Don't you think you're being a little too hard on Trish?" Matt asked as he stopped at the traffic light ahead of the car.

"Like Fred Durst says in 'Faith,' put yourself in my position, man. How would you feel if someone accused me of trying to break up you and Amy?"

"You would never do that."

"I think that's Jeff's point, Matt. I mean, Trish is jealous but she won't tell him why. A legitimate reason." Shane said.

"Well, that's a part of the reason but y'all know Amy. She wouldn't hurt a fly."

"Trish knows I got a man. I wouldn't jeopardize what Matt and I have to screw up her relationship with you. As long as we've been friends, I would have liked to have thought she trusted me. I feel like she's been lying to my face and that she could careless about me. That turns me off."

"I think the thing that hurts me the most is the fact that Trish knows how much Beth hurt me when we broke up. I mean, we were talking about everything that day. But the point is when I was feeling all depressed about it, who was the one that made me feel better...Amy."

*********

Trish was in her hotel room laying down on the bed listening to Sade trying to get her mind off things. Nothing seemed to work though. As Trish was listening to the CD, it sounded as if Sade was mad at Trish too for what she had confessed to Jeff earlier while she listened to the lyrics of the song.

In Heaven's name, why are you walking away
Hang on to your love
In Heaven's name, why do you play these games
Hang on to your love

Take time when you're down on luck
It's not easy to walk out on love
Take your time if the going gets tough
It's so precious

So if you want it to get stronger
You'd better not let go
You gotta hold on longer
If you want your love to grow

Gotta stick together
Hand and glove
Hold tight, don't fight
Hang on to your love

In Heaven's name, why are you walking away
Hang on to your love
In Heaven's name, why do you play these games
Hang on to your love

Be brave when your Johnny is rough
It's not easy when you're in love
Don't be ashamed when the going gets tough
It's not easy, don't give up

It looked as if God was telling her to get off her ass and fixed what she messed up. That's when she heard someone knock on the door.

"It's open!" She sighed.

Trish looked up and was surprised to see Matt walking in her room. He closed the door behind him and sat on the bed next to hers.

"What are you doing here?" Trish asked as she grabbed a pillow to hold.

"You're in some deep shit, Miss. Stratus. Not only is your boyfriend mad at you but now Amy is upset at you."

"I don't blame her. I've insulted our friendship. We've been friends for almost two years now. We're so close. She probably thinks I'm two faced."

"She's not as mad as Jeff is. She just wants an apology. You owe her that more than anything."

"I agree with you, man. I'm gonna apologize to her. I just don't know what to say to Jeff."

"Be honest with him. He loves Amy, they're more closer than what people think. That's her big brother and no one's gonna change that."

"I've gotta stop thinking I can change the man I'm with and just accept them for who they are."

"If I know anything about my baby brother, you have to love him for him or you'll have nothing. That means you have to accept his many moods, his weirdness, his need for attention..."

"And his relationship with Amy."

"Exactly."

**************

Amy paced up and down the hallway outside of Trish’s hotel room. She had tried without success to sleep, leaving Matt holding a pillow as she had slipped out of bed. Jeff’s words kept replaying in her mind and she couldn’t help but think that maybe if they had it out, if they realized where the other was coming from, maybe there wouldn’t be such a problem. Gathering all her courage and emotions in check, Amy knocked on the door softly, hoping not to wake up the neighbors, who she knew to be the APA.

“Amy, what are you doing here this late?” Trish asked as she opened the door, squinting her eyes to the brightness of the hallway.

“We need to talk and we need to talk now.” She said pushing her way past Trish and into the hotel room.

“Now is not really the time Amy, it’s late and we both may say things we don’t mean.”

“Oh, but it’s alright to give Jeff shit about me all the time. What makes you think we have something going on?” Amy asked placing her hands on her hips.

“Gee Amy, I don’t know. Maybe it’s the extra help you give him during the matches, maybe it’s the extra hours he spends training you, the similar clothes you guys wear, the way he looks at you. I could go on and on. It’s not just him either, I see the way you look at him.” She said, tears pooling in her eyes.

Amy looked at the younger woman, disbelief written all over her face. It was obvious that Trish believed what she was saying, believed it with all her heart and without a doubt.

“So you think when I’m fucking Matt’s brains out and screaming his name, I’m thinking about his baby brother?” Amy asked, almost laughing at the absurdity of the remark.

“Well if the shoe fits….”

“Don’t Trish. Your mouth doesn’t want to write a check your ass can’t cash. You can’t back up shit and I know it, everybody knows it.” Amy said gauging Trish’s reaction.

Trish stood facing the older woman, fuming. Her face red and her feet tapping the floor.

“Get off it Amy, you sure as hell aren’t as tough as you like to make people believe. I’d be real tough too if I had two grown men backing me every night and pulling strings to get me into the Federation.” She said smiling devilishly.

“Are you saying I didn’t make it here on my own?” She asked, her voice rising as they continued.

“That’s exactly what I’m saying. You went to Mexico, some Mexican dudes kicked your ass so you could learn how to bump. You come back to this country, train at some school in Chicago for like a week. Then, you start independent shows in North Carolina?! You meet Matt & Jeff. Train with their friends for four months and you get into ECW. You train with Dory Funk for a week. Then, all of a sudden, the WWF wants you? Bullshit! That story is biggest piece of shit I've ever heard! I’d be the top Diva if I had my thong hanging out and my boyfriend putting me over all the time too.”

“Well ya know what, at least I didn’t used to be a ‘fitness’ model. We all know what ‘fitness’ models really are, don’t we? Just a little blonde headed Barbie doll bimbo who makes some old man's whacked up fantasies come true. Now if you think that’s anymore respectable than what I do, bring it on.” Amy said loudly, not even noticing the door open and Matt and Jeff make their way inside.

“At least I can throw a real looking punch!” Trish said getting up in her face.

“You wanna see a real punch. I got a real punch for ya, how do you like this?!” She screamed as she lunged after Trish.

Matt and Jeff sprang into action pulling the two apart, bringing them to separate sides of the room.

“I’m going to kill her!” Amy screamed trying her hardest to escape Matt’s grasp.

“Just chill ok? We’re going to go to our room and calm down. Understand?” He asked picking her up and putting her over his shoulder as Amy kicked and screamed.

“You know, what just happened did nothing to help my faith in you.” Jeff said as they left.

Trish looked at him, rubbing her face and feeling like the biggest piece of crap that had ever walked the Earth.

“I know, I egged her on. I owe her an apology. I shouldn’t have done that.”

“Damn right you shouldn’t have done that. Either you learn to trust or we have no relationship.” He yelled before slamming the door and walking out, leaving Trish by herself to think about what she had done.
