Making it Real, Making it Right, Relive the Adventure

WELCOME TO THE TRAIL !!

The South Dakota Chapter of the National Lewis and Clark Trail Heritage Foundation is now seeking new members. We are a non-profit organization dedicated to educating and furthering the public's knowledge of the Corps of Discovery's expedition in South Dakota. We do this through a variety of mediums. A newsletter is sent to all of our members, updating them on events, seminars, and any new information pertaining to the Captains. An annual event is held at Yankton, portraying part of the expedition camped along the Missouri river. Demonstrations are put on for schools and private groups. Encampments are also set up at festivals and historic sites around South Dakota. We have even built a boat, similar to the "white boat."

Not all members wish to take part in any or all events, nor are they asked to. Participation in the chapter's program is entirely up to the individual. You may like to work behind the scenes or just enjoy the newsletter and its information.

Lewis and Clark played a vital part in our state's history, not only by opening a dialogue and trade with it's native inhabitants, or charting the course of the river, but by collecting and describing the then unknown flora and fauna that we enjoy and take so much for granted in present day South Dakota.
