Bob "Red Baron" Bayard Takes Flight
September 2003
Bob has a Private Pilots License but hasn't owned a plane or piloted one for over 30 years (exact time withheld intentionally).  Nicole has a coworker whose boyfriend, Chad Rogers, is a flight instructor for Sterling Flight Training at Craig Field in Jacksonville, FL.  Nicole and Camille set Bob up with 2 hours of flight instruction in the air in a Piper Warrior II aircraft.

After a few attempts at re-scheduling (due to bad weather),  the momentus flight was finally set  On September 13th, high noon, both Bob and Tony met with Chad for a few hours in the sky. It was a beautiful day, mostly sunny with a little bit of wind and some puffy clouds.  Bob basically handled the controls from take-off to landing.

Downtown Jacksonville
We flew over downtown Jacksonville, to Cecil Field, then over to St. Augustine.  From there we dropped down to 700 feet and followed the beach North towards Jacksonville Beach.  We made a few circles over our house (Tony & Nicole) and then headed back to Craig Field.  The "Red Baron" performed a beautiful landing and we were once again safely on the ground.  Bob handled the Piper Warrior II aircraft like an old pro and Chad was there to update him on the latest equipment changes over the past 30 years..
It was a great flight and I was happy that Bob let me tag along.  Now we are all wondering if he's got "the bug" to start flying again.  Thanks again to Chad for making our flight a very enjoyable experience.
