TAY A DAY: December 2000

Friday, December 1, 2000

I predicted Hanson would be too cool now to perform "MMMBop." But Taylor introduced their 1997 chart-buster by saying, "This is a long way from playing the State Fair." They whipped out a punkified Tulsa garage-band version. ~Hanson Rocks Lloyd Noble Center, by Doug Hill, November 10, 2000

Saturday, December 2, 2000

Equally impressive was a soulful rendition of the Janis Joplin classic "Piece Of My Heart." If 98 Degrees or LFO attempted to tackle such a beloved song, it would be total blasphemy and embarrassingly schlocky, but Hanson pulled it off wonderfully and even got all the teeny-boppers to sing along while triumphantly waving their glowsticks and "I Love Tay" cardboard-and-glitterglue signs high in the air. It was a great live moment, the kind that inspires droves of excited concertgoers to buy T-shirts and program books after the show. ~Wiltern Theatre, Los Angeles, concert review by Lyndsey Parker for Launch, August 15, 2000

Sunday, December 3, 2000

"If Only" found Taylor playing harmonica and bouncing maniacally up and down, while the harder-edged "In the City" (with its theme of adultery) was perhaps indicative of mature songs to come. ~David Durchholz, for postnet.com, October 22, 2000

Monday, December 4, 2000

"They (their parents) are definitely protective to a certain extent," Taylor said. "We're on the road a lot and they keep me from getting sick, but I think they're just as protective as any parent would be." ~Taylor, Kansas City Star, October 19, 2000

"...we have never been a boy band, never been something created, never been artificial. There is always that tendency to assume that you're gonna do whatever it takes to sell records and to do this and that. But we always, from the beginning, were true to who we wanted to be and to the music we wanted to make. That's never been any different.‰ ~Taylor, "Portrait of Hanson", by Jeff Napier for Nuvo.net

Wednesday, December 6, 2000

...Taylor followed in the tradition of former teenage belters Alex Chilton and Steve Winwood, whose smoky soul singing conveyed a life beyond their years. He had the whiskey-stoked vocal to pull off Janis Joplin's "Piece of My Heart," even though he's still too young to buy a flask. ~Mark Guarino, music critic for dailyherald.com, "Unlike Other Boy Bands Hanson Always Rocked", October 4, 2000

Thursday, December 7, 2000

"I wish I could say it was like some major quest to educate the young public on music history," Taylor says. "To be honest, it's really just because we like it. It's because we're sitting in sound check one day and say, 'Hmmm, that would be cool. Let's do it.' " ~Taylor, "'This Time Around', Hanson is Seeking Respect", by David Lindquist for Starnews.com, October 6, 2000

Friday, December 8, 2000

"You can never predict what will happen, what will go right or wrong, all those variables. As far as music, we will be doing music for ourselves as long as we possibly can, for the rest of our lives." ~Taylor, 'The Musical Brothers Continue Their Musical Journey', by Rex Rutkoski for ThemeStream, September 8, 2000

Saturday, December 9, 2000

Have you ever felt like losers?

T: When we were recording with Rose Stone was there with a chior. When they sang with us, we felt like we couldn't sing at all.

I: That little bit of soul we had going on nun-uh!

T: We felt transparent. Our ability to sing with soul didn't exsist.

~Jump magazine, June/July, 2000

Sunday, December 10, 2000

Taylor: What the 3rd single is, is still in debate. I would hate to say one thing and it be something else. I would guess it would either be "RunAway Run" or "Save Me".

~Taylor, MSN Chat, June 17, 2000

Hmmm...where IS that next single anyway? ;)

Monday, December 11, 2000

But what do you think of all these girls who go crazy and passout because of you?

T: We invoke seizures. (Laughs). It's just what happens. That's the way fans are.

~Jump magazine, June/July, 2000

TC & TLS have had a few mini-seizures ourselves. ;)

"Hope you guys are enjoying the holiday season and doing shopping and all kinds of good stuff."

~Taylor, Hanson Hotline, December 2000

Thanks to Kait for today's lusciously lovely pic!

"Sometimes you're the one who's tired and goofing off, or you're the one saying 'Now it's time to get down to business.' The fact that everybody plays off of each other makes the whole thing work."

~"Hanson: From Boys to Men", Cincinnati Post, 10/12/00

Thursday, December 14, 2000

"Well all my friends call me Tay, so I'm cool with it. I don't have many other nicknames."

~Taylor, MSN chat

Friday, December 15, 2000

"Well I mean we definitely have changed, if we didn't change something would be wrong. The music and we have evolved. It's not a drastic thing, it's just grown and changed. Hopefully we'll keep growing, and improving and you will keep enjoying it."

~Taylor, MSN Chat, June 17, 2000

Saturday, December 16, 2000

"Maybe our way of life is something that's hard to believe! We're cool, polite, clean - if we're not taking drugs or getting drunk all the time, then that's suspect for some people. I'm sorry, but we are like this. I don't think that we really have a dark side."

~Taylor, TV HITS, June 3-9, 2000

Sunday, December 17, 2000

Question: I think, Nietzche said "without music life would be a mistake" do you agree ?

Taylor: I'm not sure the world would be a mistake without music, but I think it's a big part of the world now. I know it's a big part of my life and I hope it will always be there, I hope that never changes.

~MSN chat, June 17, 2000

Thank you, Amanda, for today's picture!

Monday, December 18, 2000

"We've always been really close, we've spent a lot of time around each other. In many ways being in the band has been benificial for our relationship. I guess it could go both ways, but our relationship has always been really good. And more and more from being in a band."

~Taylor, MSN Chat, June 17, 2000

Thanks to Kat for the pic! :)

"You can make me want you any time you want to You‚re burnin‚ me alive.... No one else on earth could ever hurt me Break my heart the way you do No one else on earth was ever worth it No one can love me like No one can love me like you"

DitzE911 says: I noticed at Zootopia and Providence Taylor danced during "In the City". Is this going to be a regular thing now? Taylor : I wouldn't catagorize it as dancing. I just figured to get up from behind the keyboard and make it more fun for everyone. So come to the show and find out! ~MSN Chat June 17, 2000

Thursday, December 21, 2000

Question: Taylor, any great fan moments that stand out in your mind?

Taylor : There's a lot. There's so many great things that people send us either letters, amazing gifts, or meeting someone that it means a lot to them. I think one of the coolest things we get to do is charity events. It's really an awesome feeling. We get so many letters from fans that say things about their lives being changed and that's a great feeling.

~MSN Chat, June 17, 2000

Friday, December 22, 2000

"I think it's impossible to say you have one favorite thing in the whole world. I would have to say music is one of the most important things to me and my life. It's probably one of the most important things. In your life, your family, friends and doing something you enjoy and music is definitely that."

~Taylor, MSN Chat, June 17, 2000

"Everything's different But nothing has changed Are we going in circles It's Christmas again Can't you hear the sleigh bells ring All our voices unite And look up to the heavens See the stars shining bright Everybody needs a little lovin' Around Christmas time Somehow you got to know you're Going to be all right Do you remember how it used to be Sitting under the Christmas tree In your heart you'll Find the season We've been blessed by the children Black, yellow, and white They believe in the things We try to deny So throw down your weapons But continue the fight And let's love one another On this holy night Everybody needs a little lovin' Around Christmas time Somehow you got to know you're Going to be all right Do you remember how it used to be Sitting under the Christmas tree In your heart you'll Find the season

"Don't you smell the cookies he's bakin' Can't you see that belly, it's shakin' Don't take a cookie off of that pan You don't want to mess with this man You've never seen this side of him before You know he won't be knockin' at your door Here comes Santa Claus Doin' all those good things Everybody knows the Claus Here comes Santa Claus You know he's a big man Don't mess with the boss Ask Rudolph and he won't steer you wrong Santa wasn't fat all along Until he started cookin' one day Don't try to take that turkey away You've never seen this side of him before You know he won't be knockin' at your door Here comes Santa Claus Doin' all those good things Everybody knows the Claus Here comes Santa Claus You know he's a big man Don't mess with the boss Cruisin' down the air highway in his sleigh Bringing all the presents for the next day Don't forget the donuts His cookies and his milk are his pride Or anything that can be deep-fried Don't get me wrong now he's a nice guy But you don't want to get on his bad side You've never seen this side of him before You know he won't be knockin' at your door Here comes Santa Claus Doin' all those good things Everybody knows the Claus Here comes Santa Claus You know he's a big man Don't mess with the boss"

"Snow's falling down as you step out of your car Presents in your arms and you've traveled far Someone opens the door with a smile on their face And you know you've come to the right place Family nestled by the fire Christmas hopes to inspire Loved ones by your side You know you'll kiss your babies goodnight At Christmas, Christmas No matter who you are, how far you've come This is where you belong At Christmas. Memories 'round the Christmas tree Are the sweetest ones that remain with me It's a comfort deep inside, though you can't stop the race of time To know that Christmas will always be Family nestled by the fire Christmas hopes to inspire Loved ones by your side You know you'll kiss your baby goodnight At Christmas, Christmas No matter who you are, how far you've come This is where you belong At Christmas. Can't you feel it changin' Sense the anticipation You can tell we're almost there Precious time we're takin' Memories we're makin' There's a Christmas in the air Now this is what Christmas means to me Being together with your family And the wise men who followed that star To where our baby Jesus lay Family nestled all around Baby Jesus asleep so sound And his star shined so bright On that very first holy night At Christmas, Christmas No matter who you are, how far you've come This is where you belong At Christmas, Christmas."

~"A Minute Without You", Hanson

Saturday, December 30, 2000

"We are way too young to have experienced these things. But of course we have fallen for a girl and things didn't work out. That's normal, right? But you don't need to have had a heartache to be able to write about it."

~Taylor, Bravo Magazine, December, 1999

Sunday, December 31, 2000

The champagne flowed freely as midnight drew near. Most of the party-goers were centered around strategically placed televisions watching the ball descend on Times Square. I grabbed two glasses of champagne from a passing tray and frantically scanned the room for Jenny. I wasn't about to miss my New Year's Eve kiss, curious guests or not.

~Excerpt from "Sasha's Gift", written by J. Robinson

Happy New Year to all our wonderful TAD members! See you in 2001!
