Point Lookout Prison Camp For Confederates
This page is dedicated to the Confederate soldiers and Southern sympathizers who died needlessly at Point Lookout Prison located in Scotland Maryland.

Although the total death count reaches over
14,000 lives, the US Government and the state of Maryland only acknowledge a total of 3,384.  Families of these men, women and children who died at Point Lookout continue the fight today to allow their loved ones to be recognized.

As though these souls have not suffered enough, the Confederate Battle Flag is no longer allowed to fly over the mass grave 'pit' at Point Lookout.  Thousands of citizens from both the North and the South agree that the flag should be allowed to fly.  However, the one person who is able to change that rule refuses to do so.

Fact:  The red and white botony cross on the Maryland state flag was adopted by those who sympathized with the South as a symbol of Southern sympathy during the Civil War.  In 1880, the cross was incorporated into the Maryland state flag.  In 1904, the Maryland General Assembly officially adopted the botony cross and its meanings into the flag.  In 1945, the botony cross, made out of gold, became the official ornament for the flagstaffs which fly the state flag.  Question:  How long before this flag is forced not to fly as well?

UPDATE
FEDERAL DISTRICT COURT JUDGE WILLIAM M. NICKERSON HAS RULED IN OUR FAVOR TO ALLOW THE BATTLE FLAG TO FLY ONCE AGAIN OVER THE GRAVES AT POINT LOOKOUT.  A FULL SIZED, HISTORICALLY ACCURATE CONFEDERATE BATTLE FLAG IS PERMITTED TO FLY ON IT'S OWN POLE BETWEEN THE HOURS OF 9AM - 6PM.
THIS IS NOW IN APPEAL.
