Jim blows his cover and Ackland is forced to arrest him to save the op. They discover Trevelyan's girlfriend, Karen, who runs the dog kennels, is behind the burglaries with one of Trevelyan's old accomplices. Jim states that he doesn't enjoy working with Ackland. Stamp and PC Cass Rickman nick a car thief and trace one car to a Brian Farrell, who has not reported it stolen. They are then called to a hit-and-run. Singh and Glaze investigate. The victim reveals some time later that he had discovered a laptop in Farrell's car that contained information that could cost Farrell his marriage and his job, which was why Farrell tried to kill him. Singh is talking to Stamp when a motorbike rides past and lobs a petrol bomb in their direction. Singh saves Stamp from being hurt, but later Glaze states that it is Singh's fault that the bombs are being thrown in the first place. He threatens to tell DCI Jack Meadows.
