Other Tartars
There are only 3 schools in the entire country whose mascot is the Tartar. Other than Taylorsville, there is one high school and one community college. The other high school is Torrance High School in Torrance, California. Their mascot is more of a cartoon looking Tartar with an oversized sword. The community college is Compton Community College in Compton, California. The only mascot of theirs that I can locate is the head of a rather bland Tartar.

There are two institutions that were previously the Tartars, but changed their mascot around 1999. The first of these is Compton High School, CA, which originated as part of Compton Community College. They changed their name to the Tarbabes(seriously) to gain their own identity. The other was Wayne State University in Toledo, Michigan. They became the Warriors in an effort to give their sports teams a new look(they have a history of being a weak division II team). They claimed that a Tartar is a Warrior, so they weren't completely abandoning their old mascot. As one could imagine, they also stated that "Tartar" was just too easy for other schools to make fun of. They got the same jokes that Taylorsville has gotten over the years...brush away the Tartars, make sauce out of the Tartars, etc. That doesn't seem to bother T'ville...sure, make fun, it won't be funny to you when the 9th graders are mercifully sent in during the 3rd quarter. I believe that Taylorsville got their Tartar logo from Wayne State, although I have yet to find a picture of the Tartar that Wayne State used. Wayne State is also green and gold. If anyone has any info on this, please email me at taylorsvilletartars@yahoo.com. If by some chance you know of any other school that uses the Tartar, email me and they will be added.
