Leighanne smoothed down her hair, and patted down her shirt.  She pulled a tiny compact mirror out of her purse, and checked her lipgloss and eye make-up quickly, before she raised a hand, and knocked on Brian's front door.

She waited for a minute while she listened to his footsteps comign towards the door, letting her hand fall into the pocket, and finger the tiny velvet case she'd checked on so many times since she left home.  Brian finally opened the door.  "Bri-Bear!"  She squealed, and threw her arms around his neck.

Brian stood there in shock with his girlfriend threw herself on him.  There she was, looking just as beautiful as he'd always remembered her, in her tight aqua pants and low cut black shirt, with her hair hanging in her eyes at some angle that he supposed was probably the new Cosmopolition look.  And now she was at his house, all 100 pounds of beautifulness, wrapping herself around him and resting her angel-soft lips on his neck, and all her could do was stand there with his mouth open, like a fish out of water, wondering how he ever chose her over Aimee.

"Bri-Bear!  Didn't you miss me?"  She asked, leaning away from him, and giving him her I'm-winning-you-over look.  "I missed you
so much."

"I missed you, too, baby."  He said, pulling her in for another hug, and pasting a smile on his face.  "I can't beleive you're here!"  He paused for a minute.  "Why are you here, anyway?"

Leighanne giggled.  "As a surprise!"  She spread out her arms and gave him a goofy smile.  "Surprise!"  Another giggle.

"Oh, wow!  I wasn't expecting you!  This is such a cool surprise!  But, oh, the timing sucks.  I'm just on my way over to Nick's house.  And it's not really something I can put off.  Why don't you go ahead inside, and I'll make the visit as quick as I can.  Okay?  See you in a few minutes."  He grabbed his car keys off the table by the door, and hurried down the driveway before Leighanne had a chance to protest.

Brian slammed the door of his Jeep, and started the ignition in record time, peeling off down the driveway at the fastest he could go in reverse.  Leighanne was standing on his doorstep, as he observed in his rearveiw mirror, looking after the car in confusion.  He drove along the road to Nick's house, not because he'd actaully planned on going to Nick's, but because he was pretty sure that Leighanne would call Nick's to make sure that he was okay, so there was really no other place he could go.

"That bitch."  He muttered to himself.  "How can she just sneak up on me like that?  She could have atleast called."  Brian heaved a deep sigh, and pounded his fist down on the horn once, to releave some of his anger, and received a reply of twenty other people blowing their horns back.  "Damn traffic."  He snapped, suddenly extremely pissed off at the world.  Ofcourse, the one time when he didn't have any tolerance for anything, he was caught in a traffic jam.

He reached down to the phone built into his car, and punched in Nick's number so hard that he felt like they buttons on the phone would shatter.  The phone rang twice before Nick picked up.  "Hello?"  He asked, sounding much to cheerful for Brian's liking.

"It okay if I come over?"  Brian said in reply.

"What?"  There was a long pause after Nick's shocked question.  "Um, why?"

Brian sighed.  "Why not?  Something wrong?"

"Uh, no.  Nothing.  Just, you know, doing. . . stuff.  So, uh, when are you coming?"

"Right now."  Brian told him.  "I'll be over in about fifteen minutes, as soon as this damn traffic jam clears up."
"Sure.  Okay.  I'll see you then."  Nick said, then immediatly threw the phone back down in it's cradle.  Brian sighed.  There was something up with Nick today.  Not that counciling his friend was really his top priority.  All he wanted was for someone to listen to his problems.  And Nick was the only one he could count on for that- mainly because he was pretty sure that Nick had already figured out that he was still in love with Aimee.  So he didn't need to bother explaining all this to him.

The traffic jam finally cleared up, and Brian pulled up in front of his friend's house.  His anger had somewhat melted away- he never was one who could stay mad for long.  Now, he was just depressed.  And mad at himself, for stringing Leighanne along, and for never stopping loving Aimee.  He tromped up the path to the door, and rang the doorbell.

Nick opened the door, wearing the same outfit he'd been wearing last night, and not showered.  But there was a grin on his face, though kind of a guilty one.

"Whoa, who's the lucky girl?"  Brian asked, laughing slightly at his friend's obvious show of what had happened last night.

"You sounded a lot more upset on the phone that you do now."  Nick said.

"Are you avoiding the question?"  Brian teases.

Nick turned red.  "No.  Just pointing something out."  Brian was still looking at him, waiting for an answer.  Nick tried not to panic.  "Uh, I, uh, I. . ."

"What?  Don't know her name?"

"Yeah, that's it.  I don't know her name."  Nick said, then silently thanked his lucky stars that Brian had offered him a way out.
