7th Grade English
Mrs. Rezendes
Welcome to seventh grade English! You are beginning an exciting year. It will be filled with many new learning experiences. I will do my best to keep our learning activities fun and challenging. Working together, we can create a classroom environment in which everyone feels comfortable speaking their mind, participating in activities, and asking questions. By the end of the year, you will be better writers, readers, speakers, and listeners. I am looking forward to a wonderful year! On this page you will find information about the guiding questions for the course, how to be successful in English class, and the grading policy. However, there is much more to see! Guiding Questions
We will be doing a variety of activities this year. As we approach each new unit, there is one question that will guide us.
- How do the choices I make impact my life and influence the world in which I live?
This question will make us more aware of the power people have to change themselves and the world around them.
How to be successful in English class:
- Be in class on time
- Come to class prepared with a pen/pencil and notebook
- Do your homework and pass it in on the due date
- Ask questions when you don't understand
- Show respect for your classmates
Grading policy
Your grade will be based on four categories:
- Major assignments/projects (35%): At the end of each unit, you will be asked to hand in a final paper or project. The assignments will vary. During the course of the year, you will have the opportunity to work on persuasive letters, personal narratives, short stories, as well as many other types of projects.
- Homework (25%): You will be asked to do a ten to twenty minute homework assignment most nights, unless there is a major assignment due the next day. Just like it is important for athletes to practice to get better, it is important for people to read and write often in order to improve.
- Classwork (25%): We will also practice different skills in class. These assignments are just as important as the homework for helping you become a better reader and writer.
- Class participation (15%): Your class participation grade is based on several factors.
- Participation in class discussion
- Raising your hand and waiting to be called on
- Listening actively when others are speaking
- Coming to class prepared with the necessary materials
