About Ms. Decker
My name is Tara Decker and I teach Kindergarten at PS#17, Joseph H. Brensinger School, in Jersey City, NJ. I started teaching at PS #17 after completion of my degrees from Fairleigh Dickinson University in May of 2001. I graduated with a Bachelor in Psychology and a Masters in Teaching. Since then I have also acquired a P-3 Certificate from Jersey City State University. These past years of teaching have been extremely enjoyable and rewarding and it has been an honor and a privilege to be teaching in such a great school and school district.
About Our Class
There is never a dull moment in my Kindergarten class! Starting from September and lasting through June my students will be working on their skills in Mathematics (using Everyday Mathematics), Literacy (using Breakthrough to Literacy and Working with Words), Handwriting (using Handwriting Without Tears), Social Studies, Science, and Health. Learning Centers is also a big part of our curriculum. They will include math, writing, reading, listening, computers, alphabet and word building centers. We also have a great list of Field Trips planned for the children. They include The Pumpkin Farm in October, The Children's' Museum in January, The Crayola Factory in March, Jenkinson's Aquarium in May, and The Bronx Zoo in June. These field trips allow the students to experience first hand all of the wonderful things we have been learning about throughout the year.
