Bucky (Jack Monroe)
In the early 1950's, Jack Monroe was a student at the Lee School. Due to their common interest in Captain America, he developed a close friendship with a teacher named Steve Rogers. Their friendship led to the revelation that Steve had the Super Soldier formula. In 1955 as the Red Skull held the United Nations hostage, Jack received an injection of the formula and became the new Bucky. As the duo fought to protect the nation, the formula was slowly driving them insane. They had not been exposed to vita-rays after the formula's injection, as the original Captain had. They became paranoid and saw Communists everywhere. In 1956, they were captured by the FBI and put into suspended animation until a cure could be found. First Marvel appearance: Young Men #24 Captain America (Steve Rogers) The man who would one day become the exact double of Steve Rogers idolized Captain America as a youth. After he had heard that the Sentinel of Liberty had been killed near the war's end, he made it his life's work to research Captain America. In a Nazi records storehouse, he discovered the legendary Super-soldier formula. Bringing his finding to the government, he intended to use it to become a new Captain America in 1953 during the Korean War. Extensive surgery had made him look and sound exactly like Steve Rogers. He even adopted the name of his idol. The Korean conflict ended that year and the government shelved the project. "Steve" went back to the Lee School as a teacher. In 1955 as the Red Skull held the United Nations hostage, "Steve" injected himself and Jack Monroe with the formula.
