Here I am featured with one of my 5th grade students. I taught before becoming a counselor.
I share my life with 6 fun filled, feisty, frazzling furkids. Four of my furkids are Brussels Griffons. Most likely you haven't heard of this lovable velcro breed. Griffs (the commonly accepted nickname for the breed) vary in color from red, black, black and tan to belge. Another rarer color that may appear (but is not recognized by the AKC) is chocolate. Brussels Griffons may be rough or smooth coated. Both coat varieties can be present within the same litter.
Brussels Griffons have received notoriety in the media recently, which has caused concern among members of the griffon community. Movies featuring griffs include "As Good As It Gets", "Sweet November", "Runaway Bride", and "First Wives Club". The television show "Spin City" features a griffon as well.
Before you consider acquiring a Brussels Griffon to share your life, please realize that they aren't for everyone. Griffs require a great deal of time and attention. They are a very social and lively breed, and they do not thrive in isolation. Griffons are demanding and are often difficult to housebreak. Characteristically they are often stubborn and slow to forgive, and don't cohabitate well with children. The Brussels Griffon is a very hardy and intelligent breed, generally weighing between 7 to 12 lbs, and are not to exceed 15 lbs.
