In the late months of 2003, Andrew tried to stumble into the Athens Bluegrass scene. He didn't do so hot, but he met there local bluegrass legends David, Michael, and Brian. David and Michael soon introduced Andrew to a style of music popular in Athens, Greece in the early 20th century called Rembetika. After several months of conversation and record trading, David, Michael, and Andrew assembled with their instruments and began to rehearse in Winterville. When they had a few songs down reasonably well, the three took on the name "Ta Kavourakia" ("The Little Crabs" after a tune by Rembetika master, Tsitsanis) and went public. And thus the Classic City’s most novel, and most appropriate performance group was formed. Several months later, Brian joined the group to provide much need stability and punctuation to the complex Greek rhythms, and Ta Kavourakia was complete.
