Dominican Jewelry

Tainoite was used by pre-columbian natives of the Caribbean (Taino, Awawak, etc.) for use in ritual objects, barter, jewelry, and art. It was called piedra de Ijade by the Spanish although the range of jadite stones included a broad range of blue-green colored stones. Jadite is a trade name. Our jewelry is chemically Chrysocolla, one of the many blue-green varieties of stone found in the Caribbean. Therefore we use the trade name Tainoite to distinguish it from other Mesoamerican and Caribbean jadite forms.
