WELCOME TO MY MINIVAN SITE
How many of you know that the MiniVans we've all come to know and love, are based on the humble Chrysler "K" car?  Well, they are.  In the late 70s, Chrysler started developement, and almost went with an Omni based machine.  Good thing they didn't.  The "K" platform proved though to be so versatile and durable that from its introduction in 1980 (I believe), to the final "K" based platform in 94, so many parts are interchangeable, as to surprise most.
What cars are based off the "K"?  Naturally, the Dodge Aries, and Plymouth Reliant.  Both as 2 door and 4 door sedans, and 4 door station wagons.  This simple platform was the basis for the G-27 project which debuted as the 1984 Dodge Daytona and the Chrysler Laser.  The "G" body was discontinued in 94 and except for cosmetic and technology changes, remained with the basic "K" based platform.  Also, this was the first of the Turbo Dodge porducts.  There was a "K" based Chrysler LeBaron, offered as a 4 door sedan, and a 2 door sedan, as well as the first Chrysler ragtop in years.  The ragtop was carried over to a "K" based Dodge 600 as well.  There were Plymouth Caravelles, Dodge 400s, even a Chrysler "K" based LIMOUSINE!!!  (I have a link to prove it...), and the Dodge Lancer/Chrysler LeBaron GTS 5 door liftbacks also listed as "H" bodies..  The 1987 model year saw a new LeBaron designed from the ground up as a convertible and followed quickly by a coupe.  This body, the "J" body, remained mostly unchanged except for running changes and cosmetic changes until its demise in 1994.  1989 saw the introduction of the Dodge Spirit/Plymouth Acclaim/Chrysler LeBaron (the LeBaron name became so overused in the 80s it wasn't even funny.  Asking for parts for any of the 80s based LeBarons wasn't any fun as the nameplate was spread over four different platforms...).  Most of the platform is "K" based, but stretched a bit to better accomodate the addition of the V6 motors.  Also, the Dodge Shadow/Plymouth Sundance and variants of each, were also "K" platform based.  I've probably missed something here.  If so, please let me know...
1983 saw the introduction of the T-115.  Also known as, The Dodge Caravan and Plymouth Voyager.  What a revolution this simple vehicle caused.  All the major conveniences of the full sized vans, without the gas guzzling penalties.  Of course, Chrysler kept all their Full Size Van offeings.  But you could do almost anything with a MiniVan you could with a Full Size.  Businesses even snagged some of the new MiniVans.  Chrysler saw this and offered the Mini Ram C/V (Cargo/Van) which had no windows save for the front doors and lift gate.  The interior was a spartan as any Full Size work van, or could be had with all the interior trim of the windowed minis, except there was carpeting in the space of the windows.  Many of these C/V vans were used as Mini Conversion vans.  With their interiors as well appointed as many of their big brothers.  Just a bit smaller is all.  As the MiniVan gained acceptance in the mainstream public, people wanted more anre stuff in them.  Driving the price (and weight) ever upwards.
So sit back and enjoy life, from the view of but one Chrysler MiniVan owner...

Since I've spread my info out over so many geocities identities, I've decided to start cleaning things up.  Getting rid of wasted space, improving image sizes to better manage bandwidth.  I've learned a lot since I originally wrote most of this stuff, so please bear with me and pay no attention to the dust...
