Sy's geoCIties Computer Assistance Page THE BIG TIPS
1-Ethernet requires an appropriate modem
Home Networking is easy with a hub or router.
2-A prime cause of computer breakdown is overheating. I found this solution myself the hard way and was not informed of the preventative that I will refer to in this suggestion otherwise so I suspect such a condition is not uncommon.

This problem I speak of occurs because dust accumulates in the fan that cools the processor.
The fan is often not cleaned properly because the recommended way to open the assembly is with the tower laying flat and thus one must bend over to see.  Regular vacuuming the interior (carefully) alone does not pull all the dust from the fan.
Standing the open tower will give a better view of the visible fan assembly.
Use non-static wipes and a strong vacuum and  air blasters to clean the fan, etc.
To be cool
I suspect it is also a good idea to leave the machine entirely off as much as possible. This is not often stressed.
3-Closing can be a problem, (probably due to outside sources compromising and using your machine for their purpose or downloads with additions to the main control functions), so if it is; I use ctrl+alt+delete then press the shutdown on the opening panel. Even additional shutdown controls freely downloaded at utility sites, are often compromised. Firewalls are available free at some download sites or at an

We got a nice reply saying "The easiest and most reliable way to transfer files to your Yahoo!
GeoCities account is to use an FTP client." plus a long page of instructions.
I went looking at the http://help.yahoo.com/help/us/geo/gftp/gftp-09.html.
as they indicted.
There was a click on there to sign in
at http://geocities.yahoo.com/. I did that.
There in the stage left corner was the Advanced Toolbox.
In the toolbox was a click on for Easy Upload.
I uploaded some images.
When I went to add an image to the page I clicked open where it said user
files but only found a few of those I'd uploaded. That's better than it was
anyway.
I suspect the other files were too large.
Thanks to Customer Care, for their assistance.
Recently HP assistance wanted my new tower back on the warrantee because the Ethernet didn't work plugged into my cable modem.
it was a bad modem I found out 6 months later

associate like EZ Armor, (free for a year),
is very neat and effective and comes with a computer antiviral defender.  Microsoft may have already put you on to this one as I got it from a page directly mentioned in an alert from Microsoft Windows,
There is some maintenance programs in the ‘Scheduled Tasks’ of the control folder under settings in the start menu and in drive properties tools. A check that they have not fallen behind schedule too far is a good idea if the machine is off all the time when not used, if you use the machine considerably. Of course if the machine was off all the time and not used, maintenance could hardly be as necessary.
Maintenance is discussed in other places on these computer assistance pages.
Best are:
Windows defender spy shield for XP
AOL Virus screen
Zone Alarm Firewall
LIve Safety Center Online
AOL FREE McAffee Security
SCREEN SAVERS

I found, if the free utility RAM BOOSTER is used it can push the CPU into the Red Zone as a CPU screen saver or active CPU free downloads will show. Therefore I often would only used RAM BOOSTER when my system felt real slow. Then I pull it out soon after. If there is alot of crashing I start it with the system ((also refer to the BIG TIP at the right top here.
Your maintenance is not running after you’ve taken all the extraneous programs out as described in the computer assistance page indicated above on this page, using EndItAll or with the Ctr+Alt+Del facility. You’ve cleaned the machine of add ware and still it won’t run a maintenance even if you give it all night, while you sleep.
Try pulling out the Internet connection and the phone line while it does maintenance. I noticed Internet activity activating programs during maintenance and tried it. It worked. Using manual maintenance through 'properties' found by right clicking on your drive in the My Computer folder, may also be your solution. Defragmenting is often a common problem running .
Some time ago a person in a group I belong to asked for a number to be converted into a five digit number. A bunch of guys came back with the same answer. It turned out they went to one or two of sites devoted to that and did the computation automatically there. The answer was likely correct for a six digit number and contained the number five.   A five digit number has no number 5 as there is no ten in ten digits, ten being 1 and 0.
What is the moral? Be careful about believing what you get off the internet, even if it appears to be from persons who pretend to be experts.
Checking the WWII deaths and what nation they belonged to, how many were Jews etc, like I did one day, you should find answers differing as far and wide as anyone could ever imagine. A source like the Britannica would likely be my choice for authority in such a search. Good luck in your endeavors for further enlightenment.
A Nice Trick is to unpack the files of the Dolls Screen Saver or others of the same manufacture. You can obtain the un-packer at Joel technologies linked on the ALLHO NEWS Screen Saver page, (click on above). Make a folder with copies of the images in the saver. Then Download the Second Nature Desktop. Add that file and select it for the operating folder. That will make the Second Nature Desktop Screen saver available (select it on the wallpaper changer or independently from you files) the same basically as the DollsSS but every time the saver stops the last image goes on the desktop. That is without the desktop changer on. That also changes the desktop at a prescribed speed. Thanks to Second Nature for the free software. Enjoy!
