Twins

The best of friends-from the very start
Their Mother's creation-the life of her heart.
Pre-school,Kindergarten,-Junior High
A Senior now-and questions of "Why?"
She's barely made it-will she still go on?
When the shadow of her reflection-is suddenly gone.

Her bedroom of pink-ruffles and lace
Is where she sleeps-and imagines her face.
Look in the mirror-see her there
Same eyes,same nose-even same hair.
The loss so great-too overwhelming to take.
She imagines it's a dream-and soon she'll wake.
They shared the same womb-shared the same breath

They shared the same life-now,intruded by death.
She leaves the light on-for her at night
The image of her-walking into sight.
She can't accept-she just can't admit
Her sister's gone-her life has quit.
Hanging more pictures on walls-then stares for hours

Decorates her room-with her favorite flowers.
Says she'll be back-she "knows she will"
Her Mother watches-then slips her a pill.
Her Twin has died-but so has she
She falls asleep-where her sister will be.....
