Bay Area SPCA Proposal

Introduction Proposed Procedure and Schedule Budget Adoptions of the Week!

Proposed October 11, 2005

Currently the puppy kennel has numberous problems that can affect the puppies' health and safety. The puppies are presently subjected to the outside weather. the puppies are left without proper heating and cooling to protect them from extreme temperatures. The wood flooring that is in the kennel is in need of replacement. Wood tends to soak up urin especially within the craks of the wood which can leave the flooring unsanitary. The chain linked fencing also has problems. Holes allow many of the smaller puppies to escape from their runs, and to other runs with other puppies that could be dangerous depending on the size of each puppy. These problems could be dangerous to the puppy's health and safety.

The open area allows many ticks, fleas, and mosquitoes that could cause many health problems such as tape worms and heart worms. The extreme temperatures can lead to dehydration or other extreme temperature problems. The holes in the fencing separating the runs can give access to the smaller puppies out of the run. Sanitation is also an issue. Better sanitation measures need to be taken.

We propose that the kennel needs to be renovated in order to fix these problems. Many different designs will be evaluated to improve sanitary measures, the health, and the safety of the puppies. After specific designs are chosen, the construction will begain. During the construction, the puppies will be relocated to another location on the shelter premises until it is complete for their safety.

To preform this renovation we will need nine months and $19,023. A construction team will come for approximately five hours each weekday, and will start right after the morning duties.
