May 10/2006 ~ 12:13am

It's been a while since I updated again... moved back home, bummed around the house, got thrown into first Sunday back and did the my roles in the children's program on the fly... and that about sums it up.  Oh, and kept on going on to Carleton Central for my marks!  All my marks came back, and I'd have to say, for my hardest term ever, this has been the best in terms of marks~! =)

Went cell phone shopping at Pacific Mall last Saturday with Derrick.  Never realized that so many cell phone stores existed!  Unfortunately, I couldn't find a phone I was happy with.  All Nokia's are tri-band that didn't include 850mhz, or the Sony Ericssons and Motorola's were either bricks or didn't like it.  So cell phone hunt is a bust for now... after all that, I'm not so much in the mood to get a new cell phone and what not now... so I guess I'll be using my semi-broken Samsung for now.

Thought I would've been avidly gaming since I'm home with access to my game consoles, but surprisingly, I haven't touched it once, nor do I feel like gaming... hahaha sorry Danny, I'm a shame to all console gamers =P  Been doing a lot of wandering outside for no explicit destination or reason... just enjoying the nice sunshine?

April 29/2006 ~ 11:38pm *updated*

*phew* all done~!  Done exams, done 3rd year of university! Wow... it's crazy now that I think about it... It wasn't too long ago I'd be whining about the my term project, other class, and just like that *snap*, it's over.  I won't see classmates until September, unless I visit, I won't be in Ottawa until September, I'll be home.

Wrote my last exam yesterday, and wow, it was by far the hardest online exam I've ever written.  And pictures, grr to you pictorial questions!  Why were there so so, many of those?? Oh well, passed that sucker and passing that course with flying colours.  I don't care anymore cause I'm done~! =D  Chilled for a bit at school with some friends, then we went out to our class dinner at Mongolian Village in the Glouster Centre.  It was nice, got to see Casey and Mike Roe since they've been gone on co-op all term. =)

Came home, started packing... I'm almost done, odds and ends left that can't be packed until tomorrow, and of course my computer is always the last thing that gets packed :P  I've been packing since last night with the exception of lunch with Danny earlier to swap laptops. Hehe, went driving in an empty parking lot too for a while.  I can turn okay, but I can't park straight in a parking spot for the life of me... never mind trying parallel.  I really should have it as a goal this summer: get my G2 at least... Kind of reluctant though cause not so much I'm scared of driving, well, on my own in an empty parking lot is fine... with like tons of people around is a different story.  That and my seemingly lack or coordination at times scares me more.

Went to JAM tonight for fellowship.  We had a speaker from AFC come in and talk to us about campus evangelism and its importance.  We did some team games like human pyramid and human chariot race.  Afterwards, I went out to Pure Gelato with Leon, Fiona, Christal, Alfred, Jen and Aaron.  It was lots of fun =)  It'll be the last time I have gelato for a while... *sigh

April 20/2006 ~ 11:19am

Had my 3rd exam on yesterday... three down, 2 more to go~! =D  It's going to be downhill from here... hope I'll do well on the remaining two.

So I did absolutely nothing all day yesterday after the exam or today! Went to Bayshore with a classmate for lunch and a bit of shopping.  We went our separate way for a while for me to do my 'girl shopping' and him with his 'guy shopping'.  Hahaha turned out he bought more than I did, and he blames me for "leaving him unattended"... hehehe...

Ah well... back to studying tomorrow...

April 18/2006 ~ 3:29am

*yawn* wow it's been a long day... Internet's been down all day since I got home, so I haven't been on, and I was really tired, so I went to bed... will be going back to bed again soon...

So I wrote my first two exams yesterday.  Security wasn't so bad, 100 multiple choice, 3 hours to write... I finished in about 45 minutes, then waited for about 15 minutes for someone else to leave first before I left... The prof could've really used a spell checker when he wrote this exam too.  How do you write "Non of the above" for every single question and not notice the red underline?  The exam was full of spelling mistakes.  Even if he didn't have all those spelling mistakes, the prof still proves himself to be a moron time and time again who can't admit to his students he's made a mistake and he's wrong. Bah...

Since I finished the first exam early, I had more time to study for my Data Structures exam.  Oh man, that exam was crazy... I just wanted out of that exam so badly...

Not much time to relax either... have today to cram like no end for tomorrow's exam... back to bed... Oh yeah, if you haven't noticed, the guest book is up, so you can comment now! Just stick in name, date, entry you're replying to and the comments! =D

April 16/2006 ~ 6:07pm

I feel like a duck... seemingly calm on top, but going nuts below the surface.

April 15/2006 ~ 9:48pm

Study, study, study, study... that's a lot of studying done lately.  Wish it felt like I've studied a lot. =/  Two exams coming up on Monday, 9am for Security and 2pm for Data Structures in Java, then one day to cram for my 9am Network Management exam.  The next few days will be fun...

Saw the music video to Pink's new song, Stupid Girls not too long ago, haha kind of amusing.  Props to Pink for not going with the trend of crash diets and what seems to be the "be pregnant with marital issues with your current man" syndrome.  The song itself is pretty catchy and definitely holds some truth like a lot of her songs.  And of course, what's a Pink song without making fun of the celebs?

♫♪ Where, oh where, have the smart people gone?

April 12/2006
~ 9:53pm

Been studying all day, not too eventful... and experimenting with Chris whether a banana ripens faster by his plants or mine beside Danny's laptop.  Hahahaha sorry Danny, but think of it this way, your laptop is useful not only in helping me do my work, but also ripening my banana!

This guy sings crazy high:

April 11/2006
~ 11:49pm

Last night was a pain... someone left the grease pan in the kitchen unattended and it caught fire.  Ironic thing is, the one time we really did have a fire, no fire trucks were here.  Three of them came fifteen minutes later, although the fire was put out by someone else before everyone evacuated.

Anyhow, went to the Scotia Bank Place today and watched the Senators vs. Boston game today with some people in my class.  It was a pretty close game, and in the end it was a 4-3 win for the Sens, but no pizza for us today.  But overall it was a lot of fun. =)

April 8/2006 ~ 10:05pm

Today was a nice a day, a bit on the cold side, but fresh air nonetheless was nice.  Grr... GMail's kind of broken today, been a bit finicky all day... either that or rez net... I'll blame ITS for this one . :P

Had committee meeting for Elijah, then the semi-formal dinner at Chu Sing... 'nuff said.  And afterwards some of us went to Gelato afterwards at Piccolo Grande's.

April 7/2006 ~ Later that day (8:54pm)...

Thought this post was worthy of it's own posting, thus there's two April 7th entries.

So, apparently there's a "Gospel of Judas" that's been discovered... interesting... Click Here  for a bigger rant about it.

I was walking back to my suite from purchasing some groceries for next week and passed by some girls in the hallway all dressed up in mini skirts.  They called out to me "hey do you want to join our party?  The theme's tennis!"  (Ahh, that's why they're dressed in mini-skirts on such a cold day) I declined and continued walking along, and they called out saying "Well if you want to join, just dress slutty in a short skirt and tank top and you're all good to go!"  Wow... that's first year residence for you...

April 7/2006 ~ 1:45am

Another semi-uneventful day has passed... Showed up at school for one class, which really was the extra lecture that the prof couldn't teach cause he was absent one day.  He was rather surprised 70% of the class 7 people, lol) showed up for it, even if a few of them was expecting exam overview.

Watched Canada's Worst Handyman... wasn't a amusing as last week's, but still funny to watch nonetheless. =P

April 5/2006 ~ 11:56pm

Amazing how the weather can be so vicious yesterday with the relentless snow returning, yet in the afternoon the sun was gorgeous... and I'm done being poetic, haha...

Exams are slowly creeping up... oh I pray I will use the time wisely given the fact my schedule is somewhat spread out.. could really use a better CGPA, but of course, I need to work hard for it.  Had the project presentation today, it wasn't so bad.  I did a lot better than I thought I would, and overall the whole team felt we did great!  The results for our Iteration II came back and we did awesome~! =D

I probably did complain last term how people in the other half of my program, the IMD's are well, idiots.  I really don't understand how even with the schedule posted on the door, they don't read it, barge in, sees a class in session, asks the obvious question "oh is there a class?" then walks out.  Honestly, I thought they would've learned by now at the end of the year to READ the schedule.  They did it all last year too!  So they've been dubbed "our stupid half that can't read".  I'm not exaggerating at all when I say that there was NOT a single day I had a class at Carleton where IMD's didn't disrupt our class.  Even the prof has noticed and got so pissed yesterday he wrote a sign "Class in progress NOW" and pasted it on the door.  The average number of barge ins PER class is 2.  So on a good day, we get 4 disruptions.  On bad days, we can get up to 5 or more PER class, and on occasion, they even come in masses!

March 31/2006 ~ 6:00pm

Hurray for the gorgeous weather we've been having all week~!  Seems like Spring is finally setting in for good. =D

Watching Canada's worst Handyman right now.  Oh dear, I can't believe how horrible of a job these people do!  One guy resorts to duct tape to assemble furniture AND uses it as a band-aid when he cuts himself! hehehe... got to love the old "duct tape fixes everything" saying. =P  Then there's this lady who just sucks at everything!  She doesn't read instructions, refuses help from her husband until the last minute, and it she took 46 whacks at the nail to drive it into a wall... wow... dumbstruck would be the best way to describe my reaction to this all.

March 30/2006 ~ 12:36am

The past few days seem to have been a drag... yesterday both classes got cancelled, so essentially we came in for 45 minutes for the lab, gave up and went home.  Today, some of us were at Algonquin from 9 to 11:30 to attempt to finish our security case study, rush our way to Carleton for project demo at 12pm, then back to the college again for more lab time from 3-6pm.  But the weather has been really great, so it was nice to be outside. =)

March 28/2006 ~ 6:53pm

Strike's over, and people get to go back to class at the college today~!  And that doesn't affect me cause I've still been going to class, hahaha... ah well... good for them though, if they can salvage their term in the next 4-5 weeks, that'd be good.

So as of yesterday 1pm, minus the presentation, my team is done our term project~!  Oh the pain this course brought on us... but I must say, looking back, amidst the long hours, almost sleepless nights and the craziness, we accomplished a lot in both the project itself and with relations between each other, and I couldn't be happier with it.

I was in my networking class at Carleton yesterday, and our McGill professor asked the class if we had some specific Cisco device in our labs at the college labs to experiment with.  He got pretty confused when we said no, shrugged it off and continued.  Then soon after we come to another example in his lecture slides, he asks us again about having equipment, except this time was servers:

Prof: So do you guys have Windows 2003 servers in your labs?
Me: Nope, we don't have servers to play with.
Prof: Oh, so do you have at least Windows 2000?  2003 is better, but 2000 will suffice.
Me: Nope, we have no servers in the labs.
Prof: Oh, can you ask for some?
Me: It's too late in the course to ask for one now.
Prof: Well, can't you go and just like, find a server?
Me: No, we don't have servers lying around the labs to use and it's too late to ask for one.
Prof: Well, you should have servers.

Needless to say, he seemed pretty shocked that we have no servers on hand to play with and gave up asking us anything that had to do with the labs for the rest of the class.

Later that night, we had IT Security with our Software Eng prof and he tells us that he was really disappointed in our Ethics paper.  Apparently we wrote poorly and didn't talk about "this" and "that", etc.  We were limited to 1000 words, how much can you cram in there?  Then he pulls on us his infamous "Don't worry about the marks" line... oh geez, what a goof.

I think I want to change my blog layout again...

March 19/2006 ~ 9:00pm

This weekend was definitely one of few weekends I've had for my social life this term.  It was a lot of fun! =)  Wonder if I should be thankful for the college going on strike?  Though it did mess up the scheduling quite a bit... I'll be doing 8 hours of classes on Mondays now.

Went out to Broken Cue Friday night with Leon and Danny.  Played a few games of pool, then back to Leon's for some Halo and NHL. =)  Yesterday I watched Top Gear Winter Olypics, then went curling today at the Sportsplex with a bunch of other people too.  Curling was a lot of fun!  Wound up with a bruised knuckle and knee, but it's all good, it'll go away soon... I hope. =S  Went to Local Heroes afterwards with some people for dinner, and Leon and Anna both finished the farm platter!  That was crazy!  Props to Anna, I was surprised, you can now take on Danny!

March 16/2006 ~ 3:11am

Wow, almost a month since I last blogged... haha kind of got lazy and didn't feel like updating it, or I was too busy with work.  Lots has happened (I think...) since I last put up and entry.  Let's see...

Finally finished the second iteration of the term project on March 8th!  And the team is still alive!  But seriously... that phase was incredibly painful with all the coding frustration and document work.  But we're doing well for a team that isn't strong in programming. =)  To sum it up, here's the lovely statistics of this phase of the project:

Total man hours invested: 455 (and that's over a span of 2.5 weeks!)
Number of different pages created (coding files): 41
    Total lines of code: 3904
Total number of document pages created: 283

One last phase to go due for March 27th... with less than 2 weeks to complete, it could be another tough one, but hopefully we won't be pulling a lot of the 6 hours of sleep or less over 60 hours.

Passed all my midterms, yay!  Oh, and all the colleges across the province went on strike since last Monday.  That kind of screws up my classes since half of them are at the college.  It's pretty bad this time around.  No one's talking, and it seems like the strike might last for 4 weeks at minimum.  Either way, for my program to wait for them to finish striking will be too late.  Because of that, Carleton has stepped in and now other profs in our program are taking up other courses to substitute the college ones.  And since my CCNP 2 course require a trained and certified Cisco professor to teach us, they've had to contract someone from I think McGill to come in and finish up the curriculum with us.  Though I do feel sorry for the person they find to take over our project course.  They're looking at reviewing at almost 1000 pages of documentation when they mark our second project iteration.

Praying for a summer job, either back home or here in Ottawa... we'll see how that goes.

And finally new layout!  I wanted to change the layout for a while, but haven't really found a background really wanted to have to reflect the season or mood, but I think this does it for now.  Credits to the author of this background; don't know who it is though.

February 25/2006 ~ 9:51am

Grr to this term project!  Spending 15.5 hours on ONE lousy core functionality that still doesn't work blows.

And Leon's been spending too much time on Ebaum's World and the like again, hahaha...

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/main.jhtml?xml=/news/2006/02/17/wfood17.xml

That's just plain nasty... "nutritious" or not, seriously, why did you show this to me?! :|

http://www.techeblog.com/index.php/tech-gadget/windows-powered-casket

Hmm... no... no... NO!  What's a better way to express this shock and possibly disgust...? I don't know... NO!!  So what if you get the blue screen of death? =p

http://www.tamponcrafts.com/bouquet.html

Really...? Tampon crafts?  That's just wrong... if I want a bouquet, I'll create origami ones and spray it with perfume thank you!  Or people can give me real ones. :D

Later that day (9:17pm)...

I went to Loblaws and bought some groceries today.  They had their $2 sale going on, although there wasn't a lot of stuff that went on sale and it wasn't all that great, but I picked up a few things that were good.  Also bought a pot of tulips!

According to the plant tag, when these bloom, they will be a hybrid of red and white tulips.  Kind of a random thing I did buying plants, but I'm hoping when they do bloom (in a few days according to the lady at the flower booth), they'll bring some cheer into ugly weeks of school ahead.  They had a few other breeds of tulips too, though they weren't as nice.

Oh, and I did go skating on the canal after all on Thursday with Marc and Chris, but the ice was soft... like really really soft.  Hahaha I think it took more out of Marc and I trying to skate on it than if we just walked with Chris. =P

February 23/2006 ~ 1:41am

God's been great, pulled me through the first two midterms fine, now 3 more to tackle.

Went home for like 3 days as my reading week break, and now back up here for the project... again.  We've made lots of progress, and we're somewhat more efficient this time around, which is great.  Once the other team member finishes the code and it's done and working, I just need to do the web design around the dynamic data that gets generated, do the proper documentation for traceability and we're good to go... I really hope so.  We're still a tad behind, but I think we'll pull through. =)

Hopefully the canal will stay intact 12 hours from now... I really really really want to go skate on it before we get freak temperatures in the pluses or have the inevitable work that will keep me from going.

February 14/2006 ~ 8:59pm

Happy Valentines Day~! And Happy Singleness Awareness Day for the rest of the single population, hehehe... giving and receiving appreciation and/or affection is so nice... why is it that we need a commercialized day to show appreciation and affection?  Ah well, not saying I don't appreciate the token, just a random thought of the day for the rest of the world that seems to depend on today to remind them to do the things they do.  Despite the embarrassment factor you tried to keep to a minimum that backfired because of what I will claim as adding "unexpected difficulties" to my agenda, thank you, you've made me very happy today. =)

February 13/2006 ~ 8:29pm

Hurray for hockey yesterday!  Nice weather, great turn out and injury free!  Well, injury free for me anyways... can't so it was that case for everyone, but most people were unscathed!

So let's see... two midterms next week, 12 days to crank out the 2nd project release and two more midterms right after reading week.  Wow, I can see many sleepless nights ahead. =s  Praying very hard that God will once again come through and pull me through in one piece.

Was looking on the weather network yesterday... what's with the Spring weather coming up in the next few days?  Stay cold! I want to skate on the canal after midterms this week!

February 9/2006 ~ 11:30pm

Was watching TV earlier, so I thought I'd share a random thought... the Sunny D commercial annoys me for some reason.  Can't say I'm a fan of the drink either.  I remember back in the day when it first came out, it was all the rage, and was the drink to have.  When Alex and I were younger and we went to Hamilton Harbour to watch the dragon boat races, we would both go around the park and grab a free mini bottle of Sunny D they handed out, then go again later for more... hehehe...  but seriously, I think it was overdone.  Summer BBQ's at people's houses and they'd have those large Costco jugs of Sunny D for the kids, monthly church lunch would have Sunny D in the juice dispenser, and then we'd have more at home in the fridge.  But now that I think back, what's so good about it anyways?  They say they use five "summery fruit flavours", which look pretty much the same as 5Alive and the drink contains 5% real fruit juice, or something around there.  So the question begging to be asked here is, what's the other 95%?  Water, sugar, fructose, glucose and citric acid for tartness?  So essentially, heavily sugared water?

February 8/2006 ~ 4:26pm

Hmm.. seemed like a pretty short day today, in terms of classes.  That could be a good thing I guess.  I hope I'm not forgetting any critical homework that needs to be done...

This week has been nothing but scrambling to get work done that I've neglected in the past two weeks.  Next week I'll be starting up again on iteration two of my term project... this time it's all out functionality: login credentials, data integrity, site integrity, client-server adaptation, buyer accounts, shopping cart, the works!

Caught up on a few people's blogs today... took a few more of those Blog-quizzes, you can check them out
here.

February 6/2006 ~ 5:01pm

Been about a week or more since I've last posted.  Lots of stuff going on for my term project, so much that had to be done to meet today's deadline for the first iteration.  All at the cost of lots of emotional stress, bumps in the road, a non-existent social life, compromised school work, sleep, and all around suffering in the mental, physical and spiritual health department.  But it's definitely praise God for pulling me through everything thus far.  There's a long way ahead of me, but I'm sure He'll get me there alive.  Now to start the second iteration and do damage control in the other courses before the midterms kick in next week...

Really disappointed that the weather never stays cold enough for the canal to stay frozen for more than 2-3 days.  I missed Winterlude with Elijah because it was too warm (well, worked on the project that day too), and all other days I had the time to it was closed.  Ice sculptures are probably all melted by now too. =S

January 30/2006  ~ 8:34am

It's been a long, long, LONG, past week... packed in almost 20 hours of work on the term project, and this week will be no different!  Except ii might be harder this week cause my group and I will be programming the sucker itself.  And not to mention all the other stuff profs in other courses want you to do!  Not enough time~!  Time to go to class...

January 24/2006 11:12pm

Taking a break from reading for my online test for now.  It's only a Tuesday and it seems like this week is going on forever... crazy.  Sunday I played hockey again, but with sharpened skates this time~!  Feels somewhat better, I didn't wipe out hard this time either!  Just a lovely puck to the shin courtesy of Lydia! =S  The puck we used was amusing too... well, to me anyways.  It was a Cisco endorsed hockey puck with it's logo stamped on one side, and 4 arrows stamped on the other to make it look like a router.  It's funny how Cisco actually puts money into making these... but it works cause now I want one of those!  Hahaha I'm such a geek...

Apparently regular oranges are no longer good enough for people nowadays.  Was at Loblaws today craving some citrus fruits when I came across these.  You've got oranges with cherry flavour and then you've got these "blood oranges" which are supposed to have raspberry flavour in the orange too!  It's nuts~!  The picture in the flyer didn't look so bad for the blood oranges, they just looked like mini grapefruits.  Oh man, I was so wrong!  These things are so red inside, it's scary!  But if you overlook the colour, it doesn't taste so bad.

My term project that was incredibly mystifying has finally cleared up a bit, so it's finally going.  Kicked it into high gear last night with the team to get it done before the first deadline.  Guess I'll be sacrificing sleep and hockey, but it will be worth the effort later to see a passing grade. =)

January 19/2006 ~ 8:26pm

Funny how the weather here in Ottawa fluctuates so quickly!  It was only a few days ago you had to be bundled up well or get frost bite, and yesterday it went to the pluses making everything wet, slushy and slippery, then back to minuses today!  Speaking of cold, I think I have a mild frostbite, but it's slowly going away, and so are the bruises I got on Sunday, though some parts are still purple/black.  So if it keeps up, I may be up for another round of hockey this Sunday! =D  And my skates have been sharpened!

Oh, also went to "Residence Survival" tonight... yay *sarcasm*.  Only to complete my end of the contract I signed when I applied to residence and not get evicted.  Pretty boring... informative, but boring nonetheless.  Party smart, rules and regulations, etc.

And yes, new layout put up! Version 1.9 - Winter Snow

Term Project Status: 17 days left until due date #1
ASP.NET progress: Hour 2
C# progress: not started

January 15/2006 ~ 8:03pm

Oiy, so cold today!  It was -35 degrees including the wind chill today, and some of us still went to play hockey after lunch.  We went to the one on Clover and Heron today cause the rink scout of the week said this was a good one to use since no one's around.  The ice was really nice, so smooth! only problem was that it chipped and cracked easily, so it didn't take long before our game turned the ice surface ugly.  Today was so not my day to play hockey though.  Wiped out and bruised my knees fighting for the puck, and got dinged twice, one each in the ankle and shin by someone slapping the puck against the boards while I was grabbing water. =/

January 14/2006 ~ 2:45am

Eww, who touched my Vaseline???  I'm so confused!  It's a new container, I've never touched the top layer, only the stuff on the lid and surrounding the lip of the jar, so how?!  That's scary... had to scrape off the top layer that's been mysteriously used.

How?!

January 11/2006 ~ 11:12pm

It's the new year!  Which also means winter term has started as well... *sigh*  Only in my second week of school and I want out already.  This term seems like it will be just as stressful as last term.  Have a term project this time, which is essentially make an i-Tunes store from scratch using ASP.NET, C# and SQL.  SQL I've done some last term, so it's okay... but I don't know about the ASP.NET and C#.  Those scare me... so does Java for my Data Structures class.  Seriously!   Learning three new languages will not be fun.  This term project scares me.

It snowed a lot on Monday.  My 9am Networking class didn't start until 9:40am and with only myself and 2 other students in the class...joy.  And I was sore too, so trekking through snow and ice wasn't so fun either, but hockey was fun on Sunday!  Nice turn out too~!  I hope I will still have time for quality fellowship time like that and not be completely engulfed by school.

I'm not liking this current layout as much anymore... guess version 1.9 will show up sometime soon.
