Self - Mental Workouts
Mental workouts
- a complete fitness program for the young minds

"The mind, like muscles, develops with use. The more we stimulate and challenge its resources, the more will be its information processing powers.
The more a child generates ideas and applies mind in play, art and games, the more fluent she will be in generating solutions to real and important opportunities and problems of life."

Creativity broadly consists of rearranging what we know in order to find out what we do not know. Considering this as a basis, our programs focus on 4 aspects of creativity,
Fluency, Flexibility, Originality & Elaboration. All the workouts are exercises, games and fun with a lot of developmental value.

Workouts for beginners- Grade III
Philosophy

Grade III is the year of transition from learning of the basic concepts and fundamental skills to 'understanding' those concepts and learning new skills at school. Language is yet to develop at this stage in most students, as vocabulary is limited. Curiosity is in plenty. This is a good time to introduce 'thinking' as an important life skill.

The workouts

The workouts for beginners primarily involve imagination and creative expression through drawings, drama, craft and play.

Lateral workouts
- Grades VI, VII & VIII

Philosophy
These are the stress-years when the students try to (read have to) prove themselves in more areas than one, academic, social and emotional, in school, at home, amongst friends.
At this time, the students are aware, knowledgeable and 'growing up'. The lateral workouts serve the dual purpose of 'thinking for creativity, innovation & generating options, opportunities and solutions' and as 'stress busters'
.
What is lateral thinking?
Any thinking is a combination of perception and logic. Lateral thinking is essential in perceptual thinking. The definition of Lateral thinking as is, in the Oxford Dictionary reads 'seeking to solve problems by unorthodox or apparently illogical methods. According to Dr. Edward De Bono, the world-renowned thinking guru, who coined the phrase for this 'unorthodox thinking', lateral thinking is concerned with 'possibilities' or what 'might be' as against the normal logic which is concerned with 'truth' and 'what is'.

The workouts

Lateral workouts for grades VI & VII Meditation - Focus, Creative pause
Mind Joggers -
Challenge, Alternatives, Concepts
Mentobics - Provocation, Random input.

The 18 sessions of lateral workouts would involve introduction to and application of the major techniques of lateral thinking.

Lateral workouts for grade VIII would involve introduction to the Lateral thinking techniques and application of the technique to real life problems through case studies and group projects.
