The world needs people who
reach for their dreams so that others can know it is possible
Pat Henry
Hello, and welcome to the online home
of the sailing vessel Synergy! In September 2002, my wife and
I made a decision that would change our lives forever. Instead
of working until the age of retirement and being too old to enjoy
our lives, or worse yet, risk having an unfortunate accident that
will prevent us
from living out our dreams, we decided to take a mid-life
retirement, cruise the world (or parts of it) in our own boat, and resume working
when we return. This is the story of a couple of thirty-somethings
who decided enough was enough, and opted out of
the cycle of working 10-12 hour days for the benefit of
others. This is the story of living out a dream, and drawing the sweetest nectars that life has to offer.
Why cruising? For
us, the ocean holds a special meaning. Before moving to
Seattle
we lived for three years in a beautiful beachside community nestled between Miami and Fort
Lauderdale. In that environment, it's only a matter of time
before one gets drawn out onto the water. The inherent romance
in sailing soon won us over and the rest, as they say, is history.
Truth be told, we never in our wildest dreams imagined that we
would live out the scenes described by Denny Moore, Robin Knox Johnston, Annie Hill, Richard Henry Dana and
Pat Henry, to name just a few.
Of course, none of this would be
possible without the unconditional support and encouragement of our
family and friends. To them we extend a very special "thank
you" for helping us realize this dream!
We hope that by
sharing our experiences and preparations online, anyone having the
same ideas, or inclinations, will be motivated to follow through
with their own plans.
Fair Winds and Following
Seas!
