The Science: since its beginning,
Chiropractic has been based on the scientific fact that the nervous system controls the
function of every cell, tissue, organ, and system of your body. While the brain is
protected by the skull, the spinal cord is more vulnerable, covered by 24 moving
vertebrae. When these bones lose their normal motion or position, they can irritate
the nervous system. This disrupts the function of the tissues or organs these nerves
control, and is called Vertebral Subluxation Complex.5
Components of The Vertebral Subluxation Complex:
- Joint Damage
- Vertebrae out of proper alignment
- Increased stress on joints, discs and ligaments
- "Locked" jammed joints
- "Clicking" or too much movements in joints
- Pain
- Reduced range of motion
- Loss of balance and posture
- Shoulders, hips, knees, feet compensate for postural imbalance
- Loss of energy, fatigue
- Tissue Damage
- Abnormal pressures on joints and nearby "soft" tissue
- Swelling
- Soft tissue damage
- Many areas become tender and painful, especially to touch
- "Hot" spots and trigger points
- Buildup of lactic acid, histamine and other chemicals
- Unnatural wear and tear causes arthritic changes to the joints and nearby tissue
- Muscle Damage
- Muscles become tense
- Spastic
- Always tight
- Muscles weaken
- Cartilage, ligaments and tendons are weakened
- Pain
- Postural distortions
- Nerve Damage
- Nerves compressed, stretched or "pinched"
- Nerve signals fire abnormally which can lead to:
- Decreased blood supply to internal organs
- Altered nerve supply to internal organs
- Pain
- Stress reaction results in hormone release and altered body chemistry
- Unbalanced brain chemistry, linked to attention deficit disorders, addictive behaviors,
psychosis, compulsive disorder, and other conditions
- Health Damage
- Dis-ease (lack of wholeness or health)
- Accelerated aging
- Chronic Fatigue
- Lessened ability to respond to physical and emotional stress
- Lowered resistance to disease
- Joint degeneration, bone deformation, disc destruction
- Loss of height
- Inability to "hold" adjustments for long periods
Subluxations Can Also Effect:
- Emotional Health - A subluxation can disrupt neurotransmitters,
chemicals released by nerves in your brain, spinal cord and immune system. This can
have wide-ranging physical and emotional effects.
- Trophic Substances - Chemicals that travel along nerves to supply
muscles and other organs with nutrition. They are essential for muscle tone and
organ vitality.
- The Meninges - The wrap around your brain, spinal cord and many nerves,
and connect to your spine, can be distorted by subluxation. This can affect the
stability and health of your entire spinal column and nervous system.
- Organ Health - A disruption of the nerve-organ relationship has been
linked to weakened immune system, increased tumor formation, blood pressure
irregularities, disrupted kidney function, altered heart regulation, hormone level
abnormalities and other conditions.
- Immune System Function - Nerve fibers go into virtually every organ of
the immune system and form direct contacts with the immune system cells. If you took
the nerves away from the spleen or the lymph nodes, you've virtually stopped the immune
response system.
Elimination of the Vertebral Subluxation Complex
Produces:
Better Spinal Function - Every Time:
Spinal muscles, ligaments, joints, discs and cartilage become healthier.
Improvement in posture, body balance and a slowing, stopping or in some cases a reversal
of subluxation degeneration.
Better Whole Body Function - Every
Time:
Better spinal, nerve system, organ and tissue health
Attitudes and outlook improve.
Improvement of the Spine and Whole Body function improves whole body
health, resulting in better healing, better expression of life, an increase in wellness
and a better world.
The word adjustment describes
hundreds of ways of using carefully directed and controlled pressure to restore spinal
bones to a more normal position and motion. When spinal function is improved,
nervous system functions (health) can improve too.
Today's Doctor of Chiropractic takes four years of government-approved, college
education to master the adjusting "art" of chiropractic. Chiropractic
philosophy recognizes that only the power that created the body
can heal the body, if there isn't any interference. Instead of covering
up your symptoms with drugs, chiropractic looks to correct the underlying causes.
