I used to worry about some of the things I wrote about. I didn't want to upset anyone.

But then I got a revelation ... maybe I should justify myself a little right here.

So, before you go on ... this is what I have to say about that.

Here's what makes it possible for me to write the kind of things I write without feeling guilty.

A good poem should disturb.

Generally speaking you aren't going to walk away whistling Dixie.

So, you see,

tries

to wake you up a little

tries

to make you see things differently

tries

to make you think

tries

to make you feel

tries, well,

to disturb you.

So you will stretch and grow

and return,

refreshed and more alive

than when you started.
