I always dressed myself
And made myself look pretty
I liked to look like Alice
In Wonderland, more's the pity.

I hoped to find some playmates
A happy playful bunch
To join me and my family
To share our picnic lunch.

But all my family's picnics
And any other outing
Weren't like the other girls'
Ours always ended in shouting.

The lunch my mother packed
Was rage and pain and liquor
And everyone sat in silence
Until they began to bicker.

It always happened, the thing I dreaded
The sun would sink, the world turn dark
No children came, the trees grew evil
And I was alone in a hellish park.

When Susan Dunn was 14 years old, the dentist told her she had the most perfect set of teeth he'd ever seen. Apparently, up until then, no one else had noticed.
