Rained Out in New Delhi

For weeks, no months, I have been waiting for rain. India has a tropical climate, and the capital, New Delhi, where I live, becomes a veritable incubator-cum-furnace in the summer. The season of the sun starts the latter part of March and lasts until July. The mercury soars almost daily during these months. By June end, I am left panting like a tired dog. That’s when the met department forecasts monsoon showers for New Delhi, but they are hardly ever accurate, are they? In truth, the rains come when they come.
As a young girl, I didn’t enjoy going to school on rainy days...
